Hello,

I'm fairly new to the Baltimore area and am looking for doctors.  I need to have all of my labs done and the usual follow up stuff with a surgeon and PCP.  I had RNY 10/31/07 in Houston, TX and am down about 144 pounds so far.  Yay!  But I suspect that I may be anemic (based on comments from other OH member's experiences and research on the net) so I want to get checked out, just need a starting point for doctors.  I have BCBS fed and can pick a doctor off of their website, but would like just a little more to base my decion on than their stats.  Any recomendations are appreciated!  Oh, and it would be helpful to also have a doctor that can provide diabetic care for my husband.  I am in the Catonsville are.

Thanks for your help!

Michelle

I don't have any recommendations for the PCP. But if you want a bariatric surgeon for follow-up care you can try the ones who work through St. Agnes Hospital (thinking of your location). Dr. David von Rueden and Dr. Andrew Averbach. I think Dr. Singh was also with St. Agnes, but I thought he moved for some reason. I could be wrong on that. Here is the link from the St. Agnes page that has links to all of them. http://www.stagnes.org/svc_bariatric_team.html

If you are not interested in St. Agnes, all of the major hospitals in the area have bariatric programs.

Deb, Dr. Singh is still at St Agnes.  However, while DVR and Auerbach chose to be employees of the hopital Dr Singh chose NOT to be a hospital employee and remain independent.  Hence, he moved out of his office he had with AA and has an office now in Maple Lawn.
As for a PCP in the area - I go to a dermatologist and his brother is primary care in the Catonsville area - Dr. Scott Poulton.

Welcome to B-More!

I LOVE my surgeon Dr. Christina Li (suck up I know). She is at Sinai Hospital actually all my doctors are at Sinai. They are great. We are all partial to our surgeons. However, the best advice I can give you is ask around set up consultations to talk with them. See what there bedside manner is like.

I know Dr. Li is unlike most WLSurgeons in that she only schedules 2 surgeries at a time with no more than 4 a week!  My PCP at Sinai is Dr. Robert Robby good Dr and easy on the eye!

All the best!

Welcome to the Maryland Board. I am in Catonsville as well. I agree with Debbie Dr. Von Rueden is a great doctor. As far as a pcp, I can not suggest as I am not happy with my own. Best of luck to you!!!!!

Welcome to Maryland and the Maryland board.  I'm nowhere near Baltimore but had my surgery there at Johns Hopkins Bayview.  The practice there has at least 4 bariatrics docs that I know of Dr. Schweitzer (mine), Dr. Magnusun, Dr. Steele, and Dr. Lidor.   Although Dr. S was mine, I've heard good things about all of them.  Not sure whether or not they participate with your plan though.

Welcome to Baltimore.

I have a PCP I love.  Holly Dahlman.  She is WLS supportive.  She has a great grasp of being a patient as she was one for a lot of reasons long before she was a doctor.  She's affiliated with Hopkins and Sinai.  She sees my husband as well.

btw i have BC/BS federal too.

do you by any chance work for SSA?
