My dad was in an accident this morning.  He totalled his truck.  He's on the way to the hospital.  His chest is hurting.  They think it's from the airbag.  I'm very close with my parents and this is very upsetting to me.

Second-  Whenever I exercise a lot I stall!  I thought *they* all say that exercise = losing weight.  Why doesn't this work for me?  I didn't exercise all last week and actually showed some weight change.  This week I exercise and get nothing!  My mom is 6 months post op, has never exercised and has never seen a stall...  What the heck is wrong with my stupid body?  Where the heck is my honeymoon????

Thanks for reading my rants for today.  I'm trying to keep my chin up but I really just want to go home and cry.  Too many things at once!

First, My hopes are prayers are with you that your Dad is OK. It is good that he is being checked out right away. It is always better not to wait.

Second, I think the thing about exercise is consistency. When you don't exercise and lose, you are losing muscle. When you exercise and lose, you are losing fat. When you are inconsistent, it is possible that your body is trying to adjust, converting fat into muscle. Everyone is different. Although it is easy, please try not to compare yourself to your Mom. A stall is not a bad thing. It is simply a time for your body to adjust. If you continue to follow the program and be consistent through a stall, you will succeed. You can add some variety during a stall. Sometimes this helps. For example, try switching the kind of exercise you are doing.

Please hang in there! it will happen for you!

oh i'm so sorry about your dad I am sure it will be ok.

as for the exercise

do it consistently (that's my downfall) and make sure you are eating and drinking enough to support the amount of exercise you are doing.

Morning babycakes. First off I hope your Dad is okay that had to be so damn scary for you to hear.
Most of the time the air bag releasing does causes pressure in the chest but its better then going into the steering wheel or through the window. I pray he is okay. (((Hugs))))

As for the stall please keep in mind that most of the time during a "Stall" your losing
INCHES not pounds. I was wide and started getting narrow in the mirror and because I wasnt measuring myself I had no idea! LOL DUH JILLY! So I was told that I had lost a lot of inches during my 2 week stall. And I workout daily. I run 4 days a week too. So you will get back on track honey ;o)

Totally keep your chin up! It will all fall into place and a good cry never hurt anyone. I just had to tell someone that on facebook this morning...CRY CRY CRY because sometimes we ALL need to do that.

I hope as the day goes on you will feel better honey. ((((Hugs))))))

Aw, Jen, I'm sorry, I know how scared you must be right now.  But thank God for airbags!!!  Your Dad may just be alive because of it!!  Make sure you keep us posted on his condition.  And by all means, let us know if you need anything.  Trucks can be replaced - that's why there' s insurance.

As for the stall and what "they" say, well, "they" tend to lump all wls into one group.  We are all individuals and our results are as unique as the types of surgery we had.  TRY not to stress about it.  Like someone else said, you may be losing inches.  Stalls are perfectly normal - and know right now that they will happen again.  It doesn't mean "stop."

And by all means, DON'T compare your results to anyone else - especially your Mom.  She mentioned that she really hasn't developed good habits yet - trust me, that will catch up with her.  Just keep doing what you're doing and it will all fall into place.

Hang in there,

Tia

Thanks all for the support.  My dad is fine.  There will be no problems from the accident.  His lungs aren't doing well (he has asthma) and they are trying to get that sorted out.  They said this is not from the accident but from the asthma and since they found it during the x-rays they want to go ahead and get it taken care of while he's there.  The truck is totalled.  They have only owned it 3 months.  The other guy caused the accident and went to the hospital to check on my dad.  That was very nice of him.

I am usually very consistent with my exercise routine.  The gym opened later for Spring Break week.  All the students left me with all their rats to care for so I was super-exhausted after all that back-breaking work.  My husband said to stop exercising but I don't want to do that.  I want to run a marathon.  I can't do that unless I get in shape.  (Yes, round is a shape, but I don't want it to be MY shape.)  I think I'm just frustrated.  I exercise all the time cuz i have to.  I do an hour of cardio 5 days a week.  But, I haven't learned to love it yet.  Right now, I'm making myself do it.  And for the scale to stop moving irks me...

hey there, glad to hear your dad will be ok. hope the insurance helps somewhat specially since it was the other guy's fault. I don't really know how insurance works in MD.

Secondly, change up your exercise. Alternate weights with the cardio. You are not supposed to dot he same thing everyday anyways. And, as somebody else said, your results will vary from everybody else you talk to. So, change up yourexercise routine, when you find something that works, stick with it. Wheny our body egts smart and gets used to it, change it up agian. It's all about staying 1 step ahead of your body :-)
