Still no release ......because of A1C

I went back to the doctor today for a strep throat re-check.  Things look good there.  The doctor increased my glipizide meds on Friday night (for diabetes).  My A1C came back at 7.7%.  Yes I will agree it is high but not high enough to not release me for surgery.  I have to fax her my readings for the next three days and she will then decide if she will release me.  I have my appointment with the surgeon Wednesday and will discuss this with him.  I am sure most patients that have this surgery are diabetics.  She kept referring to this surgery as elective.  I don't see this as elective, it is medically necessary.  Surgery is only two weeks away and I was hoping I would have all the ducks in a row today to take with me to the surgeon's visit on Wednesday...........UUUGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

That sort-of sucks - 7.7 is not SO bad.  Increasing meds will help but the HbA1C is more of a long term picture - not likely to change your numbers in the short run.  REALLY cut down on your carbs and your simple sugars - not just complex!!!!
Good luck.

Oh, jeez, Melissa, that bites!!  I think you're doing the right thing in speaking with your surgeon.

Please keep us posted!

Crossing my fingers for you,

Keeping my fingers crossed that your surgeon can override your other doctor!!
