Jo, you will be fine. I did it 2 weeks out and I tired to get it back but it was too late. I called my surgeon she said it is OK. But for me not to chew gum when you chew gum (as per her) you suck in air which causes gas, and can stretch out the pouch. She suggested I buy sugar free mints. So I went to the mall stopped to the candy store and bought a pound of diabetic sugar free mints. This helps me a lot, because I still have the taste of anesthesia.

I hope this helps!

Adrienne,

Thank you.  I am totally freaked out. Hopefully mine works out well like your did. I am at church and had to sneak off to the bathroom to try to get it up. Apparently, gum doesn't like to be brought back up.  I pray that it passes on it's own.  Thanks again.

Adrienne,

Tic Tac and Breath Savers also make sugar-free mints.

Ren;

Thanks I will try the Tic-Tac's. I found the Breath Savers this morning.

Poor Jo!!!  I hope it resolved itself!!!  I started chewing gum fairly soon after surgery, and was always pretty careful, but accidents happen!

My surgeon said that I was never ever allowed to chew gum again.  I miss gum sooo much!  I chewed gum all the time before surgery!  :(

I asked and was told that gum is fine if you don't swallow it.

they said mints are good but i tend to crunch mints... so i think gum would be a better option for me....

Awwww I hope it was a tiny pc of gum. My surgeon would kick my ass! LOL I do miss my gum but he told me if I swallowed it I would need an EGD to have it removed which I didnt want. I think he was just trying to scare me enough to the point I didnt stick any in my mouth. I live off the cinnamon and spearmint Ice Breakers mints. They are sugar free. LOL ;o)
Im sure your fine honey. But I bet you wont chew any for a bit. (((Hugs)))

Jilly,

Your right. I definitely won't be chewing gum anytime soon!!  I will give the sugar free mints a try though.
BTW, I haven't had any problems since swallowing the gum last night. So I guess I am ok.
