I joined a gym this morning--and I didn't die!!

Hey there. I am just excited that I am officially a gym member again. I did 30 min on the elliptical trainer, which felt pretty good. Two ladies were staring at me and when I got off asked how long I had done it. I told them and they both were saying they couldn't even do a minute and how proud of myself I should be. It was nice because here I was thinking I wasn't working hard enough (just trying to get back in the groove, ya know?) and that was a really nice thing to hear.

So I am excited to start this part of the journey. I always feel so much better when I am working out.

Thanks for letting me share!

Denise

Oh, good for you!!!!  That's a HUGE NSV (non-scale victory).  They will start adding up, so keep a little journal of all these "proud of myself" moments!!!!

Hugs,

I too am intimidated by that machine. I have tried it. After 10-15 minutes I feel like I am going to die. I have much better endurance on the treadmill. However, I have heard that the eliptical is lower impact on the knees and my knees are not the best. One of these days...........

Anyway, good for you! That is terrific!

You know, I felt that way, embarrassed, about going to a gym too. But I went anyway. I was surprised to find quite a number of folks of all shapes and sizes who were simply trying to do something good for themselves. I found an environment where we support each other in this endeavor. You might be surprised too. When I first started, i could barely do 10 slow minutes on the treadmill. This built up over time. I am so glad I did this before surgery. I think it made it easier to get into exercise again after surgery. Just something to consider.

You know Julie, this gym is awesome. It is called Planet Fitness and it is right here in Bowie (not far off 301 and 450). They call it the "No Judgement Zone". They cater to first time gym members and not the muscle head, hard bodies. They gave me a t-shirt when I joined and didn't even ask what size--they simply give everyone an XL so they don't have to question it. It is brand new and only 10 bucks a month with NO commitment or contract. I'd highly recommend checking it out if it is remotely close enough for you to come. I'd love another workout buddy!!!

In any event, you'll get where you want to be soon enough!

Thanks for all the kudos guys!

Denise

ahh man i love that machine.  We bought one and stuck it our spare bedroom so i dont have to go to the gym.  I just have no time right now to go to the gym,  But that machine is awsome and it is very difficult and when you build yourself up to the 30 min or after awhile 60 min mark, it feels so good to turn around and look at it like yeah man i defeated you what ya think now!  lol  But i do miss the gym classes, like zumba, love love love love love that class.
