For those of you who have had surgery...has your grocery bill decreased? I would think it would, but then again you might be buying more expensive protein or low fat items? If so, by how much. My husband and I were talking about this and wondering if our grocery bill is going to drop any. Of course we have 1 teenage girl, 1 teenage boy who belongs to another person but thinks he lives here, and 1 preteen boy, so its not going to drop much im sure.

My grocery bill is the same, but I haven't figured out how to cook less.  We always have tons of leftovers.  I'm starting to freeze them so the food really should go further.

Hi Mellie!!

Well..............yes and no - yes in quantity, but no in quality.  I don't spend anything like what I used to in fast food, that's for sure.

I DO find that healthy eating CAN be more costly, but for me, it's all a matter of watching the sales, etc., and buying "smart," i.e., buying salad fixings as opposed to buying a prepared salad, prepping my own fruits and veggies, buying hunks of cheese and cubing it rather than buying it already cubed, that kind of stuff.

My Mom and I tend to buy chicken breasts and ground chuck in builk, so that saves us a little bit, too.

So that's my clear as mud answer!!

My grocery bill's the same but here's what changed:

- Our eating out bills for the month have easily dropped to a quarter or more of what they used to be.
- I throw out a lot less food than I used to because it would go bad.
- I buy a lot less high sugary stuff, snacks etc. and more greens, meats etc.
- I can buy more at Whole Foods and Trader Joes every jow and then because I have the budget for it.

Ok so basically what everyone is saying is the take-out bill is practically gone, but the grocery bill is the same with foods that are longer lasting? Good to know.
