i think im starting to have a problem with food.  I used to be sweet eater but nothing i put into my mouth tasted good at all.  It seems like everything i can eat at this point is sweet, you know the sugar free fat free sweet stuff, like jello and pudding.  Im on a full liquid untill next week.  i had some cottage cheese but even that was just like yuck.  Am i loosing my tastebuds, whats going on and am i going to be able to eat anything if it all taste gross?

Hi Jen,

When your body is in ketosis this is what happens. Everything tasted horrible for me and it lasted for almost 8 weeks. It will get better.

((((Hugs))))

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

I know how you feel.  I hated the first few weeks.  It seemed that everything I could eat was sweet!  blah!

Are you able to tolerate your protein shakes? If so, I would just go with what works right now and push fluids, which is the most important thing at this point. I had a week or more that I literally spit things out into the sink so I wouldn't throw up and I did that a lot. Nothing sat well with me. Even shakes got iffy. But then, suddenly, it stopped. Things tasted normal and I actually wanted to eat again. It will pass--could be anesthesia messing with you still too from what I was told.

Hang in there!

Thanks. It never feels like enough, but hopefully once my monthly friend leaves the scale will bump down for me--it's been pretty slow these past couple weeks. Oh well, at least it's down!!

Oh, and have you been doing any broth? I'd do that with unflavored protein and I switch off from that to sweet so I didn't get sick of the sweet.

Good luck!

Denise

yeah, the shakes are still ok i actually add extra ****o plain ****o not sweetened so that they are less sweet.  I found that if you add non sweetened ****o powder there is no extra sugar or fat so its ok and its heart healthy, ya know.  But man the pudding and jello are killing me.  The cottage cheese isn't so bad, but i think i could kill for some mashed pots, yummmmmmm.  If i liquify them you think i could do it?

Jen,

Since I couldn't stand fruit flavored anything after surgery and the smell of broth & bouillion was disgusting to me, I found things that I could tolerate and even enjoy such as: French Onion Soup (from Panera) and Chicken Noodle Soup (from Noodles & Company). I ate just the liquid. You could also puree it.

Jen -

This is perfectly normal and hard to say how long it might last.  Even at almost 4 years post-op, I still can't stand the smell, taste, etc., of certain things.  There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Keep in mind that the first 6-8 weeks are the hardest - once you add solid foods in, it gets easier.

It will all come together, just do the best you can.

Hugs,

Tia
