Wow, I am so thanful for this site. I'm new and have so many questions about this new journey I'm on to WLS.  DVR is my surgeon and I've only seen him 2 times so far; at he Seminar and at consultation. I've finished mostly all of my pre-op testing but they just added an upper endoscopy.  I'm supposed to be losing weight but haven't been successful so far. I'm a bundle of nerves.

My insurance is Carefirst BC/BS PPO and i have to do the six month try at  weight loss b4 approval for surgery. Does anyone know how long after the six visit w/Sloane the Nutritionist it takes for approval from Ins. and to get a date for surgery? Will insur. approve if you don't lose a lot of weight b4 request for approval? Is everything immediate and automatic after the six visit. I'm worried about running into road blocks etc....

Does anyone else have Carefirst BC/BS PPO as their carrier?

Well, I enjoy reading all of the post here and checking out the gorgeous B4 and after pics. I don't know how to download a pic. to the site.  My biggest chore will be to get rid of the cigarettes so that this can even happen. I've set 4/1 as my target date. Anyone else have this embarrasing probelm. I've got a lot of work yet to do. I really need all the support I can get.

Thanks for all of my new friends I might make here at OH.

First of all BREATH,  everything will be fine.  My approval took about a month
and surgury was set for 7 weeks after I was approved.

I did not smoke so I cann't offer any advice there other then I know he will test
shortly before your surgury date to make sure you have stopped so I would
start the stop smoking program several months before your surgury.

I had your insurance and as I said at the time it felt like they took forever
to approve it but trust me the time will fly by.

I only lost 10 Lbs. during the  6 months preop diet but have heard of
some who lost much more and others who lost nothing at all
and they had no trouble getting approved -  just so you
don't gain any you should not have a problem.

Prehaps someone else can offer suggestion as to the quitting smoking question

you have.  Know that you have a great support system here on the board and if you have questions please don't hesitate to ask

DVR did my surgury and I can confidently tell you I think he is a gifted surgeon.

So in closing like I said Breath and hang on tight.  Its going to be a wild ride but so

worth it in the end.

hi hi there!!!

ok i think i can help you out some!!! DVR is my doctor too and i also like in Catonsville!!! :-D

I have a bunch of testin too that i am almost done with!! this month has been FILLED with doctors appointments!!! i too have to do 6 months supervied weight lost!!! all together i have lost about 19lbs!! it was at 22 but i gained some weight back but i am tryin hard to stick to my diet!!!

About the quit smokin my Finace quit smokin and has been smoke free for almost 2 years now!! how he did it was chew gum everytime he got the urge!! he didnt go around family or anyone who smoked for about 3 weeks!!! they say the first week is the worst but once you get past that first week it gets eaiser!! Everyone in my fiances family smokes thats why he stayed away for so long!!!! Honestly if you put your mind to it and really want to quit you can!! you just have to remember its in your head!!!! you just have to fight the urdge just like with food!!!!

about uploading a pic you will prolly have to have a photobucket.com account to have an avtar because it can only be 100x100 pixtles!!! whn you get a pic you want for your avtar (main pic for your page) all you have to go is upload it to photobucket.com and resize it to100x100 or less! then save it, then right click and save it to your computer in a folder or where ever you wanna save it!! come here and click change avtar and it will take you to a another page! on that page click upload and it will bring a window up where you have your stuff for your computer go where ever you saved the pic that you made smaller and click it and click open and it will put the link in the box! click upload and your done!

hope to chat with you soon

welcome.

we've had our initial consult and only need 2 more visits with Sloane before we can submit for approval and that's DVRs rule not our insurance.  every insurance is different I wish you luck with yours.

as for smoking ask your PCP to prescribe Chantix.  my DH used it a year ago and it really really helped him quit.

I have the same insurance with you.  I was approved within a week after the paperwork was submitted.  I had to wait for my paperwork to get submitted because each time someone got my paperwork, they were out of work due to an illness.  The first lady got the flu and the second had gallstones.  I have no luck!  LOL
