Nessa I understand it might be in your budget but I dont care if I was a millionaire I dont want to pay any more than I need too. I have BC&BS now I am wondering if its worth a damn. I was told when I enquired about wls that all would be covered if I used preffered provider and I would only pay 200.00 to hosp for surgey. Did I misunderstand them? I hope not I am calling them on Monday. They make all this so confusing for normal people. I hope this works out for you and hubby.......

julie,

the surgeon is one bills (15%)  (15% of 17,000 is $2250 for example 15% of 30,000 is $4500) (and i am not sure how much BC/BS lets the doctor bill me for the surgery)
the hospital is another bill ($200)
the anethestesiolist is a different doctor (depends on if the doc is P*****t to depend on what I pay him)

so there are at least 3 bills
then the NUT is not covered (but psych is)
but then doctor/program fees are not  (DVRs is $775)

Hello, I'm new to this site and am trying to learn how to post new topics and the like to formally introduce myself. But, just ran across this topic and since my insurance carrier is Carefirst Blue Cross B/S PPo, I'm wondering if I will run into any of these difficulties as well.

I'm so sorry for your dilema with DVR and he will also perform my surgery once I'm done with my supervised visits with Sloane. Financially, i'm not equipped for any suprises later on. Is there any way you can know about these "extras" before you run into them? Are there any questions I should be asking now. I'm 3 months in and April will be my fourth visit and I will see Renessa then for my psych eval.  I believe after the six visit is when they get everything ready to send to insurance co. How long does it take to get approved and a surgery date after that?

it would be kind of a shame to have to switch doctors if you've already bonded with everyone at DVR's office.

HI and Welcome.  The best thing you can do is call your insurance (which btw BC/BS carefirst is not the same as FEP-BC/BS and ask them to   a. explain it.  b. send it in writing. l

I'd call several times and talk to several different folks till you get the same answer.

also DVRs office will probably know a lot depending on which insurance you have.

we don't have to have 6 visits.  in fact, our insurance does not require any.

Wow I thought BC&BS Federal was one of the best. I am really confused now. Who does everyone else have thats so much better than BC&BS. Nessa you are fine I just hope you can work somthing out so you can go where you are comfortable for you and hubbys surgery. I understand the %s but man I thought they paid more. I will call  them and inquire about the surgery and whats paid and whats not. I will also ask about anesthesia. I thank you for bringing it up as it is very important to know as some others are on tight budgets with the economy as messed up as it is. In my opinion the insurance companies should pay for wls since in the long run it would prabably save them $$$$$$$..
