I need to find chewable iron and chewable calcium citrate.  I went to cvs and they basically told me i was out of my mine that you can t have chewable in these.  They said one will discolor teeth and the other would take enamel off teeth, what do i buy?  Will i be able to to take tablets of iron after surgery.  Surgery is on friday so i need to get on the ball.  I have already started vitimans but they are all pills except my multi which is chewable.  The iron pills are so small but i wondered if they would let me have them after surgery.  Help me Help me

Hi there,

Bariatric Advantage makes a chewable iron and calcium citrate but I think they are only available online.  You should be able to order some that will be waiting for you at home when you get back from surgery.  My nut gave me some samples and they weren't bad.  I'd recommend them for now...liquids are yucky in my opinion.  I was able to switch to iron and calcium pills after about a month.

Good luck,
Heather

I use the Bariatric Advantage also. If you can't find something in the short term, try going to a Vitamin Shoppe Store. I have found some things in there that are chewable. Although I was not looking for iron. I like their selection better than GNC. They also have a web site where you can look up their locations. You could call first to save yourself some time.

Good Luck!

I also use Bariatric Advantage- I actually look forward to them sometimes.  They are tasty!  Their chocolate protein and coffee protein is good, too.  Good luck with your surgery!

I get my stuff at Wal*Mart and Rire Aide and its actually very tolerable as far as taste goes. I cant take the iron yet until I am 6 months out but I take the chewable centrum and the Caltrate 600 D Plus. Its cherry prange and fruit punch. ;o)

I also use the chewable Caltrate 600 D.  I have found these most anywhere, walgreens, rite aid, walmart, giant.  You should be able to find them.  They are fruit flavored and don't taste too bad.  I don't have to do the iron, so I can't help you with that, but good luck with your surgery!!!

Hey guys. I've been told over and over that Caltrate is the wrong kind of calcium for bypass patients. We need calcium citrate and not calcium carbonate for proper absorption.

Jen, Celebrate is the brand of Iron that I got in grape which tastes pretty good. Then there are those calcium chews I told you about. I'll give you a buzz today though! Only one more day!!!

My doctor's office in TOwson sells the Bariatric Advantage stuff. I have the chewable chocolate calcium citrate (you are actually not supposed to chew it, it's a lozenge but I have no patience.) I am sure they wouln't mind if somebody wanted to go in and try a sample. Let me know if you want his info.

and what somebody else said is correct, no Calcium Carbonate for us.
