I'm very worried...

I think I eat too much!  I am 7 weeks out as of yesterday.  I eat about 1/2 c of food at a meal.  My surgeon doesn't allow protein shakes after 6 weeks.  I am on full solid food.  I'm not allowed to snack.  I have to stop drinking 30 mintues before a meal and can't drink for 90 minutes after my meal.  Am I eating too much?  Am I going to mess up this surgery?  I really want this to work for me....

Jenn,

First of all try to stop worrying so much.  You will be fine and thank god you are able to eat a half a cup of food, I still have a hard time with a 1/4 cup at times.   It is also not so much as how much but what are you eating.  Are you getting protein first, etc?  Keep drinking your fluids and I am not sure about this protein shake stuff that your Doctor says no other WL doc I have heard of says that.  I have heard it from Jilly and she had the same doc. Hopefully, Lisa, Aaron or Jilly will see your post and comment as they all had the same doc, or you can PM them and I am sure they will respond on that. I cannot physically or mentally get all my protein each day from food, so I have to do the shakes.   Just take one day at a time and hang in there you will do fine.

Hugs
Terri

Hey Jenn -

It's normal, but unnecessary I think, for you to worry.  We ALL worry that we're going to be the first for whom this surgery doesn't work, blah, blah, blah.  I would say that since you're still so early out, as long as you're following your surgeon's/nutritionist's guidelines (and it sounds like you are), you should be fine.

Personally, my guidelines for drinking were 30 minutes before and after, and of course, nothing during a meal.  You'll have to adhere to the nothing during and some period of time after FOREVER, although the 90 minutes may decrease.

I think you're doing fine, but if you're truly concerned, give your surgeon a call.

Hang in there!

Hugs,

Tia

Thanks everyone!  I'm a little neurotic about this whole thing.  I have been heavy my whole life and have learned over the years that my body doesn't like to lose weight...  I'm just concerned that this is another time...   :(

Jenn -

Relax!!  For the first 9 months at least, your body won't have a choice.  Because of the way the RNY is configured, it HAS to let go of the weight!!

Trust me, you'll be amazed.  Take pics, take measurements and try your clothes on frequently - it's hard to see the changes in the actual mirror, so all of these tangibles will help.

Hugs,

T

Hey Jenn:

I too worried about this at first.  I thought that I could eat more than the normal person posting here.  Then I asked Dr. K and he said you are eating a lot less than what you did before surgery aren't you?  and of course the answer is YES.  He knows what he's doing!!!  I agree with everyone else here, relax a little bit, make sure that you are eating your protein first and remember Dr. K's 30/90 minute drink rule.  If you are really having a hard time, contact Mary B at the office and I'm sure that she will be glad to talk to you about it.  You could even email her at : [email protected]

You are not the only person that has thought this.  I thought I was loosing too slowly, but now at 10 months out I am down 120 lbs.  I think that is perfect for me!!  I still have another 25 lbs that I would really like to loose, but I believe that it will come off.  Now for the first time in my life, I have the confidence that I will be at my "goal" weight one day.  You will be too.  Just follow the rules and stick with the plan.

Lisa Z.

When we believe, all things are possible!
