Just curious.  Am a newbee to the MD site and wanted to know if the Crofton folks are going to Golds Gym.  I try to make 5 days week since surgery.  It gives me a boost on Daily Plate cals. and it drops lbs faster.

Hi and welcome to the Maryland Board!!

You might actually get more responses tomorrow morning.  We have several gym rats here on the boards, and in fact, they at one time, were doing a daily workout post.

I USED to be a gym rat and sorely need to get back into that!!  I agree, the weight just comes off so much faster, especially in the first 9 months or so!

Good luck!

As much as I would love to work out (side)- I have to be inside the building,  at my desk to do computer work.

I work out at the Dundalk Planet Fitness and do water aerobics on occassion at Kid's First Swim Club in Perry Hall.

I've been doing  cardio and weights at the gym since being cleared by my surgeon back at the end of December.  I have seen a HUGE difference in my endurance, strength, and energy level since starting.  I mainly do the elliptical for cardio and have seen my heart rate go from the mid 180's to the high 150's which is awesome to me.  Just after 2 months of working out 3-4 times per week my heart is healthier.

I don't love to work out and i ususally grumble the entire way to the gym and then for the first 10 minutes of cardio.  Once I get going I semi-enjoy it and I always feel really good when I'm done.

Since my surgery I've stopped taking antidepressants and for myself, I truly believe in the power of the natural endorphins that are released during/after physical activity.

I'am not a gym rat, but the rules of the pou*****lude exercise.  If u thing exercise is walking to/from car around desk/kitchen then WRONG. I'am b ad and I'a. sorry. But being a couch and desk potato, I had to find more.  My wife had me walking the local pkwy for 2 mi.  Worn out - to many lbs. not motivation, sore feet etc. Weight loss surg got me to the gym fat but proud that I was there for ME

Good Morning:

I am one of the Gym rats Tia mentioned.  I am at the gym 3  nites a week and usually
at least once on the weekend - plus I bowl 1 nite so I consider that exercise.

Exercise is definatly a big part  of WLS -  and I do believe it helps with the depression
a lot of us go thru.

Julie:  I too was embarrased when I started going but within a couple weeks I realized
that I was there working my ass off  too make myself healthy -  to hell with what
other people think.  What I found is that those same people I was so worried about soon became a wonderful source of support and compliments.

Never in a million years would I have thought I would enjoy exercising -  but now
if I skip a day I feel guilty LOL  I also never thought I would walk around a locker room
half naked and not feel selfconcious let alone walk from the locker room to the
pool sans coverup.

I'm not in Crofton.  What qualifies you for a gym rat?  I have a nice gym next to my building at work.  I get to go for free and there is a separate faculty/staff locker room so I can take a private shower.  I get up early 4-5 days a week to go to the gym for an hour.  Am I gym rat?

Yes I would say you qualify as a gym rat:  Especially for so recent a post op-
Keep up the good work -   I know that exercise  is a big part of weight loss
and it also boost your self confidence.
