to not be able to handle sugar after my surgery. Somehow, I knew that I would be able to eat it though. Are many of you guys able to tolerate sugary things?

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO with you on that, Gail!!!!  Sloan told me, after me telling her that sweets were my problem, and I QUOTE, "After wls, you won't want them, nor will you be able to eat them!!"  AMEN!!!  I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy to hear that.

NOT!!!!!  NOT!!!!!  I'M A SUGAR HO!!!!!  LOL!!!

Seriously - I CAN eat sugar - certainly not in the quantity I used to be able to eat, and thank God for that, but yes, I do still want sugar (constantly), and I do indulge (when I can't take it anymore).  I DO find that my system tolerates a little better quality sugar as opposed to more s/f items.  Either way, if I eat TOO much, I get HORRIBLE gas and then diarrhea.  Happy the Puppy would be more than willing to vouch for the gas.

I feel your pain, sweetness, it IS a constant, never-ending struggle!!!  SIGH.  I've said it before, I wish DVR had cut my chocolate vein!!!

Take heart in the fact that the quantity is probably vastly different and that overall, you're making MUCH better choices (and so am I, but it still bites!!!).

Hugs,

Tia

Nessa -

Well, you read all about my obsession with all things sweet.  I don't know if I get sick from too much fat/grease, etc., because my choices ARE, for the most part, healthier!!  I will say that I'm able to indulge ONCE IN A WHILE in a cheeseburger from Mickey D's, and it doesn't bother me.

I have a hard time with breadm rice, pasta and potatoes - I can do very little of any of them, as they sit in my pouch like lead.

The easiest way to NOT get sick from any of that is simple:  DON'T OPEN THE CARB DOOR!!!

Seriously, they're evil little things, and once they get their slimey feet in your door, they're relentless!!!!

Be strong!  But remember - everyone is different!!!

oh i could easily be carb free (well not fruit but grains yep pretty much)

I did SBD for over 2 years and was so happy on phase 1 and they told me NO you have to eat the fruit and the grains...

well that's the slippery slope down from losing 80 pounds to losing 40 pounds.  and at the rate i'm going to losing 30 pounds...    I'm suffering hugely from last supper syndrome.

we see the doc on March 9th for intake and since I have most of my tests done already from prior things (gall bladder, ibs testing, sleep testing)  I bet he puts me right on my diet.   my problem is that if i lose too much i'll be below 40 bmi and my sleep apnea  and slightly elevated blood pressrure are  not enough to be co-morbidities.  I have to depend on BMI alone.

You are still early out. I did the same one time and got sick. Trust me those days do not happen as often as they used to.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Hi Gail,

One thing for sure that many of us can do after your intestines adjusts to the changes is tolerate sugar. one thing we have to do is continue to keep in mind that this is a life altering change that we have to stick to.  I say if you are going to have a piece of candy or chocolate do it in moderation and only once in a blue moon.  If you do it often it will be very hard to stop.

((((hugs)))))
