Hi,

I'm Nessa
I'm 49
Married to brian who is 38
we live in owings mills
last night we went to the seminar at St. Agnes and heard Dr. Von Rueden speak about WLS.

We are trying to get our initial appointments set up now.

I think I've struggled more with weight issues than hubby who has always been obese but never did much about it.

feel free to ask any questions or offer any advice about WLS it's all new to us.

glad to be here

Welcome to Maryland's Board!

I have Dr. Singh as my doctor, and quite a few of us on the board are either Averbachs, DVR (Von Ruden's initials) or Singh.  I'll let them step up and tell you.

Just ask away and good luck on your journeys; and are you planning to do it on the same day?  Or one goes first and the 2nd one chickens out?  LOL

Welcome to the boards Nessa :  and get ready for the ride of your life -
There are bound to be twists and turns but its well worth it in the end.

I had DVR and would tell you I feel I was in good hands.  He will tell
you like it is thats for sure.  I have since changed to Dr. Mo at GBMC
(DVR moved to St. Agnes)  for follow up care.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hi Nessa,

Welcome! I am a Dr. vR patient. I had my surgery at GBMC and have followed Dr. vR to St. Agnes for my follow up care. I have been more than pleased with him and his team. To be fair, there are several surgeons in the area who are also centers of excellence for WLS. I have heard good things about them too on this board.

I remember how overwhelmed I was after I went to the initial seminar. There was so much to take in. That is good that you are making your first appointment. That will help you figure out and understand what is right for you and what it will entail to get you there. I also found it invaluable to hear from other WLS folks. This board is a great resource for that. IN addition, the next support group (includes pre, post, and undecided folks) is March 3rd at St. Agnes. Here is his website with all of the info about suport groups and his practice in case you do not already have it.

Best Wishes,

Debbie

Welcome to the Maryland Board, Nessa and Brian!!

I am President of the DVR Fan Club!!  LOL!!!  Not really, but I DO worship at the shrine of DVR!!  He is a wonderful doctor, very skilled and, once you get to know him, compassionate and caring.  Initially, he may seem aloof, but he's actually just shy.  He knows his stuff!!  Ranesa McNally, a LCSW, is also on his staff and does psych evals, which will be part of your pre-op testing.  She rocks!!!  Many people on this board continue to see her as part of the adjustment process of wls.  She is a wls patient herself, having lost 170 lbs., and having undergone a total body lift in two segments.  She gets us and our needs!

My wls in August 2005 was virtually complication free, as was my recovery.  I since suffered some gyn issues which were resolved about 8 months ago, but that was related more to the rapid weight loss than the surgery itself.

We'll turn the tables on you and tell you to ask us whatever you like!  You'll find that we're a great group of people who have taken a common bond and turned it into some lifelong friendships.

Take care,

Tia

Wow.  what a great welcome.

the meeting last night was crowded so they have not gotten back to me yet...

I had lost nearly 80 pounds on South Beach Diet like eating... over 2 years.  in the last 4 months I've gained half of that back.

arrrgghhh... I want this to happen quickly and i know it will not....

Brian is my bigger concern... he  has current physical limitations that may or may not resolve with weight loss...   right now exercise is near impossible for him.

I guess i'm in a holding pattern till our first appointment.  how frustrating.

Hello Neighbor,

I am right around the corner from you in Randallstown...

Dr. Von Rueden is/was my dr/surgeon also. He is great and like Tia says he knows his stuff. On my initaila consult I had a whole list of questions and he answered every single one of them. He really encourages you to ask questions. You could have not chose a better surgeon.
