CONGRATS!!! Dr Averbach does do more then one surgery in a day.I was scheduled for 10:00a and didnt get in to surgery until 1p due to a complication on the surgery prior to mine.

When I was admitted, I had a room by myself. I myself considered that a blessing because I was NOT in the mood to chat and be friendly to strangers...You can use your cell in the hospital, I even had my charger plugged up right next to my bed and no one said anything about it. As for the Wi-fi...not sure...I must have been a bad patient, because I just didnt have the energy to do anything besides push my medicine button and walk the halls....

I would def bring lip balm, sweats or loose clothes for going home and a firm pillow. The pillow really helped getting in and out of bed.

Thanks!
I am going to think good thoughts about the surgery before mine if there is one, I want to be in and out! :)

How long was your actual surgery?  How long were you in recovery?  Or do you even know!

Guessing you probably have no idea, unless someone else was there to wait and report back to you!

Hmmmm..I forgot exactly, but I believe that I may have been in surgery for maybe an hour and a half. My recovery was about the same, maybe a little longer. Then I went back to my room. The nurses were wonderful. Everyone was very helpful.

 I left the next evening.

Construction around the hospital was bad at that time (not sure how it is now), so the pillow was a godsend..I swore my husband ran over every pot hole he could find!! lol...

I originally went for my seminar in August of last year, and they were still in major construction!  Hoping that maybe some of it will be done before I get to come home, and the parking lots are smoother!

First congratulations on your surgery date.  I had Dr. Averbach as well he is wonderful!!  Like many of have already said he does do more than one a day.  I was in a private room on the 4th floor when I had my surgery, and yes you can use a cell and I would recommend it as I just spend two days there and they charge you a tremendous amount of money for long distance calls that you need to bill to a credit card.  They do have wireless internet but trust me you won't feel up to getting on line.  If there is anything I can do for you please let me know, if you need an angel I would be more than  happy to serve in that role.   Also, the hospital is really sprucing up during the construction.    No matter what the hospital, room or staff is like the important thing is you are in good hands with Dr. A.

Hugs

I think I will take my laptop just in case... ROFL I might even teach my parents how to IM my husband just to keep him updated...  Not sure I can get them to the point of how to connect the wireless on their own, but might be good entertainment either way!

It all comes down to how I feel, I might just feel like sending them all home!

Angie -

I had my surgery at GBMC; they have private rooms for their bariatric patients and each has an extra bed for a "visitor."  My Mom stayed with me the first night (she was NO help - slept through EVERYTHING!!  LOL!!!), and frankly, by the next a.m., I just wanted to be alone.  I happily sent them on their way and just closed my door when I wasn't out walking.

One of the problems with having visitors and people staying is that somehow, we feel like we need to "entertain" them!!!  Not so!!  This is about you, so do what makes YOU comfortable.
