ok....let me ask you something.  i know many of us used to be emotional eaters.....I finally realized that this week when i went grocery shopping to get a few things.

I have had a craptastic week and next week doesn't look any better but I think I grocery shopped according to my mood (I forgot to bring my list with me).

I ended up getting two bags of sugar free chocolate, organic whole grain cereal to snack on along with another box of microwave popcorn (low fat) and some oat bran cereal.  It is a carb fest!!!!!  although most of it is whole grains.....I also got some cheese and coffee creamer (fat free/sugar free)........this is not normal for me LOL

On another note, I've been noticing that I have this perfect circular bruise on both of my kneecaps......it never goes away....I have never banged my knees nor fell on them or anything and I've noticed that my right knee catches now on just about every step I take.  I swear I do not want to go in for knee surgery at this point right now.

Of course all this is just me being paranoid and freakin out and *****y and upset all at once.

I told Tia and she gave me a ***** slap for the groceries and she threatened to "out" me to you guys so I figured I'd do it myself and let the lashings begin

I'm afraid I can't lash at you too hard...as I have had a "craptastic" week myself and know exactley where you're coming from!!  Although I haven't been eating many carbs...but then again...I haven't really been eating anything for the last 4 days....2 or 3 bites of something here and there...3 quaker oats low sugar breakfast bars and peanuts...that's pretty much been it since Monday morning...

Hope it gets better...don't shoot yourself too hard...you know you'll get right back on track soon!!

well you know most of my corbs I bought were whole grains so mary Beth would be totally ok with that........I use the SF chocolate as ex-lax LOL that just leaves the popcorn which has 10 grams of protein in a whole bag LOL

Aaron, What you face with the groceries is very real for many of us. After all, we still have our old brains, don't we? This is what I have been struggling with for a while now. Our tool still works, and the amount of weight we have lost gives us confidence to know we can fight this and get to goal. Some days may be more of a challenge than others. The key is not to give up! Stay focused. For me, I have learned that I will not go back to the person I was. Yes, I may slip, but I never let it get past a certain point. I have also learned that I cannot buy certain things. If I buy it, I will eat it. I also went to my surgeons web site and re-read the guidelines. I realized that I have been using carbs as my :"legal" snack too often. First choice for snack should be protein. The carbs, should be an occasional thing. I know you know this, but I had gotten lax and had conveniently forgotten. I guess my bottom line on this is to not give up and stay strong. You can fight this thing and win!

As far as the knees, I think surgery would be a last resort. Still it would be good to know what the bruising is all about. I know every MD is different, by my orthopedic MD told me a couple of weeks ago that he would have thought I could not walk if he had never met me and had only seen my films of my knees. I have significant wear, no cartiledge and plenty of spurs. For me he said that knee replacement is something we will only discuss when I can not walk anymore, which I was glad to hear. So I am trying to learn some new exercises to help me strengthen them up. Hopefully the bruising is nothing serious. Still it is worth asking about.

You are doing fantastic! Hang in there and keep up the good work!

oh debbie I so love you :)  well as you may know, I never snack.  if I have carbs, I work it into my meal.  If I don't have room for them, then I don't eat them.  Again, at least it's a whole grain for the most part :)  and I eat it dry (without milk) to minimize the calories.  the cool thing is that I'm seeing a change now.  I think I had more calories yesterday and I ended up losing 3 pounds....just yesterday!

As foor the knees, I think they only thing they can do is go in and clean it all up.  I agree I don't think they will do knee replacement but they can definitely do some repair work.  I had heard from a co-worker that she had the same thing with the bruising and it was because the bones were rubbing together and the cartilage was definitely gone.  they did some ligament repair work on her to keep her kneecap in place but it involved something that i think is very archaic compared to today's medicine.  I have an appointment with my orthopedist probably to get more films done and he may just give me another shot of cortisone.
