Update On Surgical Consult
I met with Dr. Schweitzer Monday........I REALLY liked him & his staff.......unfortunately, he can not do my surgery. He said due to my history of abdominal adhesions, he would not do RNY laproscopically. So...... I am back off to Dr. Magnesun. I really did want to do have the procedure open, BUT if its the only way, I am game! I still have a few more tests to be done, & my psych eval, so they say I am looking at maybe 2 more months.........hey, 2 months is easy after 2 and a half years!!!!!!!!!!!
It wasnt exactly what I wanted to hear, but hey, at least it wasnt horrible news.......a minor set back {mentally}, but not a biggy!

Heather,
Oh yeah it is really not good to try to have the surgery done by lap with the adhesions. It is better to be safe and have it done like the doctor suggested. In actuallity it is not a set back at all, thank goodness that you can have the surgery. In two more months you will be sitting here on the Loser's bench along with us. Yay!
Best wishes!

Hey Heather!!!
Thank God Dr. Schweitzer didnt just say he'd do it without taking everything into consideration!!! That shows what a true professional he is!!
I've also heard good things about Dr. Magnuson, so you're still in good hands!!!
Hang in there!! You may find that this journey has some bumps in the road and some setbacks, but in the end, your health and well-being are all that matter!! And you've got the right attitude, so that will help you along the way!
Please continue to keep us posted!!
Hugs,
Tia

I had mine done open. After having gall bladder surgery a few years ago and having several scars due to that, I actually decided that open would be better for me since I'd only have one scar less than 3" (Mine is just over 2") as opposed to quite a few more scars.
My surgeon also said the surgery is quicker when it's open (taking approx. 45 minutes) and easier to move the liver out of the way and that if you needed the gall bladder removed during surgery it would be easier also.

Heather,
I was originally referred to Dr. Magnesun myself but when I found out he ONLY did open I asked to be switched to one of the others that did it lap. He was used by two other patients of my PCP and I've heard only good things!
It's a good thing that Dr. S doesn't want to take any chances and is doing the best by you!!
