Needing help from my MA losers!?!

In June we are going to have a week long meeting in the National Harbor Gaylor Hotel.  I have 2 okay 3 problems.   1.  Where can I eat?  2. Where can I stay that is safe because I cannot afford the National Harbor hotel prices? 3.  The doctor I work for, his family, and mine are going, so it has to be near transportation for them to see Washington, clean, and most of all safe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kim

Hi. Welcome to MD, even if it is only for a week. The harbor area is beautiful, and no matter where you go, you'll have a lot of fun and good food. I can't believe you have to pay for your own hotel for a meeting??? I don't know what the prices are like at other hotels. You'll definitely want to try to stay close to the harbor. Go on hotels.com, or other discount sites, and see who has stuff to offer. That is the heart of tourist season, so it will be tough. PM me, or post what you find, and we'll all help you determine if it's in a safe neighborhood.

Our public transportation system, as much as people like to complain, is pretty good. Your hotel will help you determine the best way to get to sites and to DC. But, there are bus lines and metro subway that connect to the DC metro system. If you've never been to DC, their metro system is the bomb. Probably the cleanest and most efficient I've been on.

I didn't see how far post-op you are. But, we're famous for seafood, mostly crab, which is very low calorie and carb. But, otherwise, I haven't found it hard to find great soups, salads and protein dishes at any restaurant in the area. There are so many great ones to choose from. One of my favorites is Oceanaire, or the Capitol Grille. There is a PF Changs, a Cheesecake Factory and Cactus Grill right in the Harbor area, those are my favorite chain restaurants. Not that far (Baltimore isn't that big of a city, lol) is the Canton section of Baltimore, which is a very up and coming neighborhood. One of our board favorites, Nacho Mamas has an amazing chili and black bean soup, not to mention the best guacamole around. Their dishes are HUGE, and of course not all are low carb, but they definitely have choices for you.
Hugs!

Hi Kim,

I think Kathy above got her Harbor's confused. She gave you info on the Baltimore Harbor, not National Harbor Gaylord Resorts.  National Harbor has a McCormick & Schmidt Seafood rest., some really high end bars & restraunts and I sure the hotels have places to eat. There is a Hampton Inn directly across from the Gaylord. I know there are other hotels in the immediate area, but I am not sure which ones. Be careful about putting the mile radius in the search area because some of the area's close to the Gaylord are a little tough. National Harbor has its own zip code, so look into that. National Harbor is a city unto itself, it is really nice. It has a ferry that will take you to Alexandria, VA and Georgetown.

Good luck and enjoy your time here.
