Update on my dad
Well I finally talked to mom last night. they should be home today. they did the catherization and he did well with it. the doctor opted not to put stints in although one of dad's lower arteries is 65% blocked. Well to explain the swelling in his legs was probably from when they took arteries from his legs for his original bypass surgery. There's not a whole lot there to get the blood pumped back up to the heart so that's causing his edema. Basically he has exactly what was going on with my legs which is the lower extremity venus stasis. the valves in the arteries in your legs are malfunctioning and refuse to push blood back up to the heart and the blood starts to pool.
For me it caused a tremendous amount of swelling and fluid build up to the point where if the skin broke, it would leak water for days and mine is permanently discolored (almost black in some areas) and the skin is very brittle and tough. Now dad's isn't as bad as mine and he's actually experiencing pain in which mine never hurt only if I scratched it because it itched an awful lot.
He just has to accept the fact that he's 270 pounds and needs to lose weight and all he does since he retired is sit at a computer and smoke cigarettes. he's gotta suck it up and get back in shape from when he was still working for the national guard.
anyway, that's what's up with him.....oh and Heather M., if there is ANYTHING I can do for you, please let me know honey!

Thank you debbie! He's just now starting to realize that he's starting to go through what I've been going through for years!!!!!!! He knows he's in the danger zone........He just needs a slap of reality to get him back in line and in shape. I'm glad he and mom joined a gym but mom goes more than he does.
