I know you would've rather had dental work without novocaine, but you took the first important step.  I know you probably also felt like you were the biggest person in the world, right?  I felt that way, too - my weight was 388.  I feel your pain!!!

So is your PCP supportive of you wanting to have wls?

Have you researched any surgeons yet?

And lastly, would you like to share your name with us?? LOL!!!

Trust me, after everything that will be done to prepare you for wls, you will have NO modesty left!!!  You'll be poked, prodded, seen naked, etc., but keep telling yourself that it's all a means to an end and they can do whatever they want as long as you're approved!!!!!

Hugs,

Tia

Hi, my name is Heather, and I'm from Sparrows Point, MD.

Yes, I do feel like the biggest person in the world when I'm out, and I to be honest, I'm usually the biggest person in the room, and even building where I work, shop, etc.
I've learned to just kill people with kindness; to smile, look them in the eye and say, 'Hello', because most of the time people want to look away or just look down at my stomach/body.

As far as my PCP, he's iffy on the WLS, but I already knew that, because in 2005 I asked him what he thought about WLS, and he poo-pooed the idea. He said to seek therapy, and get to the root cause, and start moving (exercise).
Great advice, but 90 pounds later.......
This time he was fine with my decision, and that's because I told him I wanted the less invasive Band surgery, not the bi-pass. He seemed relieved to hear that, and he is working with me on the six month monitored diet for my insurance. That's the best I can hope for at this time.

And finally, the doctor I chose to do my WLS is Dr. Averbach, because he's only one of a handful of doctors in my network who has a lot of experience with Lap-band.
At least on paper he looks good.

O M G!!!  Another Heather!!!!  LMAO!!  Um....I christen you.....Pink Heather!!!!  If that's okay with you, of course.

I swear I know how you feel, and I'd like to tell you that you'll feel differently once you lose a substantial amount of weight, but you may not.  It takes a while for our heads to catch up with our bodies, but that can be dealt with, too.

But first things first - PLEASE don't take offense, but based on your starting weight, DON'T be surprised if Dr. Averbach (about whom I've heard NOTHING but good things), suggests RNY for you.  It's better for people who have a lot of weight to lose (like me).

Anyway, put yourself in your hands and above all, trust him!!!

I live in Middle River, so you're close by!!  Keep an eye on the boards, because we have get-togethers that wouldn't be too far for you to travel!

HTH,

Tia
