Something is wrong with my husband and we are not sure what it is just yet. Last night he and I were in a CPR class and about 10 min after we got there he said he felt odd. He had said that driving there too. I gave him a drink of my water bottle and as soon as he handed it back to me the books in his hands fell and hit the floor hard. All of a sudden he started convusling really bad and turned as white as a ghost and really sweaty. 911 was called and on the scene in like less then 5 minutes. He was out of it for a good 3 minutes. When he came too his speech was a bit slurred and he told everyone he was fine and had just fainted. Well..........YES he is a fainter when he gets blood drawn and when he sees a lot of blood but that wasnt the case here AND he didnt just faint he seized BIG TIME! He would not allow the medics to take him and they tried like hell. He was so cold and clammy and they told him it was NOT NORMAL! So I told the medic how he has been taking that Whey powder everyday and how he has lost 100 pounds in a year all on his own with diet and excercise. They didnt seem to think any of that was corrilated? What? But anyway I was letting them know all I could. But when it first happened I was in the room ALONE with him! I was sitting in the chair next to him waiting for everyone else to get there and the two RN instructors were outside. I grabbed his head because it was bobbing around so bad and I screamed to the top of my lungs for a good 30 seconds before they heard me. They came in and got him on the floor. He was still flopping at that time. He has never in his life had a seizure but has fainted about 10 times in his life at certain Doc appts. Sooooooo he went to the Doc this morning to "Humor Me" was his words. They said he was fine and just has something called Vasovagal syncope and its normal to see that happen. BUT they wanted him to see Cardiologist today anyway so he is at the Univ of Md now as I speak. I am at work and sick to my stomach worrying about him! I thought last night I was losing him I really thought he was dead and I FREAKED OUT! He looked dead. His eyes were wide open during that whole 3 minutes he did that but he was starring right through us all and never blinked and had one tear coming out. I had nightmares ALL DAMN NIGHT! So needless to say I am still very much shaken up about it because he is in my eyes this big strong man and I never see him weak or vulnerable. ;o( Please pray he will be okay because he is my EVERYTHING!!!!! Thank you all so much!
Love ~Jilly~

I am praying that he will be fine!  I hope it all turns out just to be something random, or something so minimal that it can be treated and never happens again!

Thanks sweetie. Me too Me too!!!!!!!!! They said he has that vasovagal thing which just means your blood pressure drops easy. They said things high in MSG can cause that and Whey Protein is one. So I am all over that today with the Docs. I just want to know what happened. (((Hugs)))

Oh sweetie I would have been a mess too to see my husband go through that. That is really scary.
One thing he was suppose to get checked out last night!   Bad hubby!

Ok now did the pcp check his blood sugars?  I imagine they checked his blood pressure what was the reading the EMTs  they got when they checked him last night?  I would definitely have them check his b/p standing then a little while later sitting  then a little while later laying down and then standing back up again.  if there is a a vaso syncope problem they can detect it by checking his bp in different positions.

I will definitely keep your hubby in my thoughts and prayers and let us know what the docs say.

Hi Cira thanks honey. Yes the medics did a finger stick and it was 102 and they said his blood pressure was low which we knew but his sats were 100% when they got there and his heart rate was 55. They wanted him to go but he refused I think more because of embarassment! Today at PCP they did the blood pressure standing sitting and laying and said all were normal. He is seeing the Cardiologist now.  I just wish I knew what caused that. It was the scariest thing  I have seen since the death of my son. I still have nightmares about that. I mean those are images you just never get out of your head. ;(

My daughter suffered from vasovagle syncope and she was treated with salt tablets.  She hated the salt tablets and ate sunflower seeds and drank lots of water all day long to keep from having those type of episodes.

I am glad that he is ok.

Yup the Cardiologist said that some people use to take salt tablets but that they dont use them much anymore at all. The Doc told him some tricks to prevent it from happening again. Im so so SO GLAD it is something we can deal with. Had something been wrong with his heart I dont know what I would have done.

Jilly,

You have no idea how happy I am for you and Mike.  Does he like sunflower seeds or pistacios? if he does tell him to keep a bag with him everyday and eat from them throughout the day and to drink lots of water.
