Jenbear. Don't worry!  First the Dr's are not going 2 do anything until they have all the pre op testing results are all in. If the tests were done in the hospital, they usually have the results in the next day or two. I don't even have my date yet. My Dr. will not give dates until all your testing is finished. I saw my Dr. on Jan 12 ans she told me that if all my testing was finished, my VSG  could be the end of Feb. beginning of March. My last test was on Sat. 1-24. and that was my sleep study. So, I am hopeful that she will schedule me soon. Now, if this is going to quickly 4 you.. that's another story. If you feel to rushed, or you would rather have more time pre-op just say so. There are people that want to lose as much as they can before surgery. Relax, and do what is best for YOU!  Good Luck , and keep posting so we can follow your journey. Leslie

Hi there,

There are several pre-op tests that Dr. Schweitzer requires (physical, chest x-ray, ecg, blood tests) that cannot be done any earlier than 30 days prior to surgery.  So, you are probably good with your physical date, that's about how far in advance I had mine.  You should be getting a copy of a letter to your PCP or GP that tells them (and you) what tests need to be run soon if you haven't gotten it already.

Good Luck,
Heather

Dr. Schweitzer faxed a copy of the requirements to my PCP and they were all ready for me when I got there. I never did get the letter they said they mailed to me, but they told me over the phone what tests to ask for in case my doc didn't get hers either. To make you feel better, my preop physical was on the 16th of Jan and my surgery is the 3rd of Feb, so you have plenty of time. They will want about 15 kinds of bloodwork, but that is all drawn at the same time (PCP did the draw, but you may have to go to a lab, but those are normally walk-in), an EKG (which my PCP did right in her office) and a chest x-ray. My local radiological facility takes walk-ins and I knocked that out and my mammogram in about 30 minutes. I even got a little scare with my clotting factor being a little high, but all was well. Just be sure to take your vitamins in hopes of keeping your levels good for the bloodwork.

Not long now!

Take care,

Denise

I agree with what has already been posted. This is apparently standard procedure to perform these last minute tests within 30 days of surgery. Your PCP and labs are used to getting these requests and turning them around quickly. Just make sure to state that this is being done for surgery prep. It will feel a little frantic and you may want to keep records as to each thing you do, where, and when, then follow up with your surgeon to make sure they receive it all. If there is anything that they do not receive timely, your records can help them follow up and request fax / email reports from these tests in order to wrap it all up.

Good luck to you!

I totally agree with everyone else.  Everything will be just fine.  I know that this entire journey can be overwhelming.
Wishing you all the best.
