ANDY! WHAT'S THE LATEST?
Hey Tia,
It was an absolute joke. It was a regularly scheduled city council meeting, but they advertised it as a chance for the community to come out and air their concerns. Well, the chambers that the meeting is held in probably only holds maybe 75 people. Needless to say those seats were taken very early. In fact I got there around 6:45 and I was lucky enough to grab the last seat. The meeting was scheduled for 7:30 and by that time the entire hallway was crammed. There were probably twice as many people in the hallway than fit in the room itself.
Anyway, early in the meeting the council president made an announcement that this meeting was the regular monthly meeting and not a question and answer session for the residents of Coatesville. Needless to say, it wasn't a very popular decision. He went on to say that there has been a special meeting scheduled for tomorrow night (Wednesday) at a local school to accomodate the expected large crowd.
My take on it is this: They knew when they had this regular monthly meeting scheduled that there would be concerned citizens that don't normally attend these meetings there. I don't think they had a clue that there would be that many people there, though. They knew that if they opened the floor to the public that it would become a free for all and serious chaos would ensue because of the outrage and the small meeting room. What it basically came down to was they should have scheduled last night's meeting for the school instead of having another meeting tomorrow night. He even had the balls to say "we don't want to keep you here until all hours of the morning". What an idiot. Doesn't he realize that everybody that showed up last night were prepared to be there for the long haul? It was just his way of covering council's ass because they were too stupid to realize that several hundred people would show up for an advertised meeting with the main topic being the arsons. Then he tries to come off looking like the good guy by saying he didn't want to keep us there all night. Duh, don't you think we're going to be there all night on Wednesday?
Well, with the growing anger in this city I can only imagine how out of control tomorrow night's meeting is going to get. There are a lot of pissed off people in this city and they are also very scared. I don't blame them. Hell, I'm scared. I only live a mile or so from the heart of all this. I will keep everybody updated after tomorrow night's meeting. Thank you very much for your concern, it's much appreciated.
