NO NSAIDS AFTER RNY!!!
I don't know about any other surgery types, but I know that I was told no NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) EVER after WLS, as they can cause internal bleeding. That means not even children's strength, coated aspirins, etc.
Again, this is just what *I* was told by DVR. Other surgeons may have different parameters.
So, if in doubt, call your surgeon. And please note that a lot of our PCPs don't know much about wls, and therefore, MAY prescribe NSAIDS. It's up to YOU to ask if a med is an NSAID.
Also, make sure that you update ANY doctor's charts with the "NO NSAIDS" comment - dentist, gyn, pcp, etc., update any wallet cards, and if you use the same pharmacy, tell the pharmacist, too.
Here's a list (which I'm sure changes daily):

What happened to cause this post? all my doctors know that I can't have NSAIDS whether it's common knowledge or I have told him and it's in their files for me. No NSAIDS ever again.......prolonged exposure to NSAIDS in non-wls people can cause ulcers in their stomachs. For us, we have no stomach so it would just rip our pouches apart. stay away from NSAIDS always.
Nothing in particular really. But....Darla's PCP told her several weeks ago to take an aspirin and when Darla told her (via her nurse), that she'd had wls, the doctor said, "Well, then take a coated aspirin!" Um.....NO. Not ALL doctors know this.
Plus, since we have some newbies lurking, I just thought it was a timely post.
That okay with you, Wuzzy???? LMAO!!!

My name is Wuzzybear and I approved this message LOL
yeah I'm really grateful for my orthopedist since he went straight for the good stuff since I told him I couldn't have NSAIDS. Darla needs a new doctor.....the one she's got is a quack. ALL my doctors know I can't have nsaids.......it makes it challenging for them to prescribe any kind of pain killers (which is why I still have a bottle of darvocet in my cabinet LOL)
