Rx Strength Vitamin D without a Rx
I have had low vit D since forever it seems (prior to RNY) and while my levels go up on the Rx strength- the levels drop when I finish the prescription and reduce it to 3000-5000 IUs OTC daily.
My PCP gave me some literature on this company (see link). She finds the majority of patients have low Vit D and over time has heard stories of how various insurance companies are limiting the #'s of pills given at one time and "overcharging" for them. I was paying like $4 for 4 pills- insurance co would only allow a months supply at a time. She had a few of her PA's and interns do some research and they found this site and highly recommend it given many patients need to be on higher levels of Vit D for probably a lifetime.
On this website you can get 100 of the once weekly rx strength vit D capsules for $30 (plus shipping). That's enough for about 2 years. Plus an actual Rx is not necessary.

Like Nicole, I have also wondered if taking the weekly pill is not so effective for post RNY patients due to possible absorption issues. I am thinking to try the daily dose of 5000 IU and get blood test again in a month or so.
