WHAT..........................?

Given the significance of today's inauguration, what are YOUR hopes for our nation?

As I stated earlier in my 3 things post, I view ANY inauguration day as a chance for a new beginning.  We've had SOOO many years of same old, same old, that I really do hope that President Obama is able to do great things.

Regardless of your color, gender, political or religious beliefs, etc., I think we can all agree that things are at their lowest points in decades.  The jobless rate is through the roof, people are losing homes, retirements, etc.

One of my main hopes is that our country takes care of its own first.  The United States is the first country the rest of the world turns to to solve their problems, lend them money, fight their wars, etc.  But as I drove to work this a.m., I saw homeless standing on the corner, and tents under bridges.  I think it's pretty sad that people are going hungry on our own streets, yet we will shell out millions to help others.  They say charity begins at home, but does it really?

So that's my hope - that OUR economy stabilizes, that OUR jobless rate decreases, that people are able to salvage some of their hopes, dreams and plans for the future before it gets worse.

I pray that God watches over our new Administration and their families.

What about YOU?

You hit the nail on the head hon.  If we take care of ourselves first, get our economy back on track, the rest of the world will actually be better off.  If our market gets better, there's a an equal reaction on all the world's markets too.  It can only get better from here.  I don't envy Mr. Obama at all.  he has a mess to clean up.  My biggest fear is that he's only going to get one shot.....It's going to take more than 4 years to clean up what it took 8 years to destroy.

Oh well....I don't wanna get all political........but the only thing we have to look to is a change and I know it will be a change for the better.

Amen!!!!  Yeah, I don't think we're going to see rapid, drastic changes like we need.  It's going to take time and unfortunately, a lot of money.  Maybe if we stop financing everything for everyone else, we can fix our own issues!!

Thanks for posting this.
One of my dreams has been realized today.  Many of you may not know, but I am married to an African American man.  It has not been an easy road in making this choice.  Growing up, my step-father was a believer in racial segregation and I can always remember when my grandmother would say, lock your doors we're driving through the black neighborhood.  I have lost some "friends" and even family over this decision.  My hope for the world is to see people for who they are and not for their color.  While we have made strides in this over the past decade we still see races.  I am proud to have such a capable president that happens to be black and I am encouraged that as Americans we were able to vote for him dispite our segregated upbringing.

I want our politicians to really work together for the people that they serve. I am tired of party politics. I think we need to severely restrict the power and influence of special interest groups. Our politicians have to unite under our president, roll up their sleeves and make some tough decisions in order to turn things around. No longer should decisions be made based on who they owe a favor back to or who is screaming the loudest or throwing the most money around. Ideas should stand on their own merit, not be discounted because of the political party, religiion, ethnicity, etc. of the suggestor. Politicians have to have some backbone and be strong enough to admit that they cannot please everyone and focus on what is right for the collective good. We as Amercians need to stop focusing on "me" and instead work towards "us". There is the old saying, "United we stand, divided we fall". A president is a leader, but does not have absolute power. Are we willing to accept that every hard decision may not be one we like for ourselves, but see the need to do it anyway for the greater good? Or will we complain and dig in our heals? True change will not work unless all of us are ready to change ourselves and work towards that end. I am encouraged by the fact that there is excitement and support for real change in this country behind this president. It certainly feels different right now. But we cannot expect him to do it alone.

Wow! I did not expect to say all of that when I started writing. I apologize for rambling on. I guess I will sum it up by saying that I hope we as Americans are truly ready to embrace and accept the change that is required to really improve things. There is a lot of hard work to be done and it will not be easy.

Wow!!!  Very well said, Deb!!

On a local level, I've been the victim of both State and office politics - and it stinks!!  I agree, the focus needs to be less on "me," and more on "we."

It's going to be very interesting!

Many fine points there Debbie.   Our nation goes through cycles and we happen to be on the bad end of one now.  Obama has a tough road ahead of him, as does every new president.  I hope and pray that this administration does what it's hoping and promising to do by bringing the nation together and doing what is right and best for "us".
