Successful night out!
So I really haven't done a big night out since my surgery until last night. We planned a group dinner at PF Changs and then out to a bar afterwards for my sister's birthday and one of our friend's birthday. I was a little nervous about looking or feeling weird because of my restrictions. I bought myself a new outfit to wear....hehe...so I'd at least LOOK good even if i wound up having a bad time. (My stomach is really jiggly now and I got the "higher power" SPANX to wear underneath...they're great!)
I'm so pleased to say that it all went really well. I ordered the lettuce wraps for my meal....i was able to eat 2 of them and they were AWESOME. I took a cake for them to bring out after our dinner....and didn't even have a lick of icing (that took restraint!).
Everyone was ordering appetizers and alcohol and big meals, and eating cake......and i had my little lettuce wraps and water and was completely happy and satisfied. God bless my sister, she mouthed to me across the table a couple of times, "Are you ok?" and I smiled and nodded back "yes" to her. Thats so typical of us....always worrying about the other =) We went out to a bar afterwards and again I drank my water and still had a great time. I have great friends!
Another successful milestone.........just thought I'd share!

Thats so awesome!! I am glad you were able to enjoy yourself. I went to a baby shower for a good friend of mine several weeks after surgery and they had sooo much food there. All my friends were also worried like are you ok? But I was fine. I think having the restriction from the surgery gives me the will power I never had so when I go out with friends I am satifised with what I order and eat AND I never have to feel guilty afterwards now...lol cause its a healthy choice :-)
You are such an inspiration. I'm still waiting approval from my insurance and I am always browsing through the state and RNY forum to read about others who have gone through the surgery. Most people are pretty negative or have had many problems. I Have seen a few who are positive, but it was nice to actually read about specific positive moments post-op. Thank you for sharing!
Jo,
WLS is a hard choice and mentally it can be tough too, and I think alot of people just arent equipped and mentally prepared for what they go through (thats one of the reasons support groups are so important
).
But yes there are complications *sometimes* at 5 weeks out I had a stricture but you know what I still LOVE my RNY. Why? because it gives me a life now when before I had none because I hid due to my obesity. Alot of people have the misunderstanding it is 'the end' of so many things. But I saw it as a new beginning and I am fully taking advantage of it and LOVING every minute of it, the good and the bad. Yes for a while things are different for you but now at only 3 1/2 months out I feel completely 'normal' so to speak I just eat smaller healthier portions and I am totally ok with that. This surgery gives you a tool so you can FULLY live your life for the rest of your life.
