Listen to the Doc and DO NOT drink soda!

OK, I am so embarrassed!

I've had a few sodas over the past month or so. I know that Sloan told me I might be able to drink a little after a year, and it wasn't bothering me, so I have had a few.

I was thirsty at work, and not in the mood for water. Actually, I didn't bring any of my water mixers, and didn't want plain water. So, I got a diet pepsi out of the cooler. I took a few sips, really slow and was fine. Then, about 1/2 hour later, I guess I took too big of a sip.

First thing was a pain in my stomach that felt like a big guy in steel toed boots had just kicked me. Next thing was me getting VERY light headed. So much so, that I leaned into the wall to support myself. Next thing was waking up on the floor of our office with my head in the trash can, and a cop standing over me. The pain in my stomach hurt so much that I passed out from it.  I did not let them take me to the hospital. I felt fine by that point. My co-workers wanted to, but I said I was fine. I still feel basically fine, just a little sore. I think I'll look like I got beat up tomorrow. I'm short, lol, so I only had a short fall. Trying to explain what happened to the cop was funny. He's asking me if I was allergic to the soda. I just explained that I shouldn't drink or eat anything fast because of the size of my stomach now.

In 41 years of life, I have never fainted before.

For two dear friends who I know are extra worried... I did get a ride home from work, so I didn't have to take the bus after falling. My co-workers wouldn't have let me leave without that.
Hugs!

OMG Kathy!  I have never heard of such a bad reaction to soda.  I'm glad you are ok.  It sounds very frightening. Thanks for the warning.

Oh Kathy!  So sorry to hear that you had such a bad reaction.  I will admit that I have been drinking for about the last 2 months of my pregnancy.    I guess I'm lucky/unlucky in that it doesn't affect me at all.  I've actually had a hard time getting my food to go down and digest without a few sips.  However, it is something that I plan to eliminate once I have the baby.

OMG Kathy!! What do you think happened?  I have never heard of such a reaction to soda perhaps it is the carbonation.  I know I can have a glass of wine and I am ok however a month ago I had about four sips of a beer and started to get lightheaded and felt really funny so I will never to that again.

Please take care of yourself and hope all is well now with you.

Hugs,

Terri

Oh Kathy, What a horrible experience! I am glad you are OK now. I have not allowed myself to try soda again since several months before surgery. Little by little I have tried other things. I will pay attention to your warning and not even try this one!

Thanks for sharing!

OMGOSH!!! Im sorry you had to go through that sweetie. I went through something very VERY similar the other day because I had a few goldfish and forgot I did when I gulped some water. OH NO NO NO!!! Tha****er pushed those goldfish and I was in the WORSE PAIN EVER! It was worse then having labor and kidney stones. I was told I was dumping. I did end up in the potty after 15 min of INTENSE PAIN so I wont make that mistake again EVER! LOL  My surgeon told me no soda at all ever not even diet. Said not only the carb in it but it messes with your bodys glucose and that is dangerous after surgery. Im so glad your okay. (((Hugs))))

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm still ok. I expected to be quite sore this  morning, and luckily I'm really not.  I'm almost positive it was the pain from the carbonation that caused this all. It was a diet soda, by the way. But, that isn't much better for me than a regular, except of course the savings in calories and sugar. Some lessons come at a higher price than others. I'm VERY lucky that I have a hard head! LOL

Thanks again for the kind messages. I hope I've been able to help someone else avoid the same mistake. When they say tiny sips, they mean it, and unless you just can't live without soda, it's really not worth it.
Hugs!

hugs sweetie, so sorry you went through that. i have a feeling you won't be having soda anytime soon! i drink soda but not straight from the can. i pour it over ice and that reduces the carbonation enough so that it doesn't bother me. maybe next time do that, ok?

hope you feel better.

(((((hugs))))))

Oh Kathy, how terrible for you. I don't do sodas anymore but I tell you I sure do miss a nice cold diet coke.
