I have been so stressed and busy lately... I have kinda just been... surviving. I'm like 7 months out and can't really remember what I'm supposed to be doing. I have some questions:

How much fluid am I supposed to be ingesting?

Protein?

Calories?

I know I need to make sure I'm taking my acid pill and my vitamins and that's about all I've been doing. I don't eat any sugar b/c anything >10g makes me dump, but any suggestions on how to get back on board are very much appreciated.

From what I gather (I'm a bander not RNYer) - 64 ounces of fluids per day and a minimum of 60 g of protein for ladies and higher for the men.

Calories are a different story?  Some are under 1200 calories a day - others have no calorie counting requirements just as long as they get liquid and protein in and continue to lose weight.  Many may be watching carbs.

A good way to get back into the groove of things is to watch out for the Feed Bag here on this site.  Tia usually starts it off, and everyone piles up there with their "what they ate the day before" and that's been a great source of information and ideas for me.

Perhaps a consult with your nutritionist will help you decide if you've been on track.  I'm ready to go see mine tomorrow because I have the carb confusion that I need to figure out myself!  SMILES

There are so many things you can do to get re-focused. I hesitate on stating any particulars because it seems like each surgeons office has there own preferences. So keep that in mind with what I am going to say.

First, did your surgeon's office give you an instructions guide when you had your surgery? Mine did. This may be a good time to pull it out and go over it.

Can you contact your surgeon's office and set up an appointment with the nutritionist? This was an option for me during my first year post op as part of the ongoing support. Even though I am now more than 1 year post op, I bet I could still get an appointment if I asked.

Speaking of support, are there any support groups convenient for you? It would be helpful to reconnect by interacting with other patients on a regualr basis. In the meantime, we are here for you on a daily basis. Partipate in the "What Are you eating" posts to solicit feedback. If you see that this post is not done on any particular day when you have questions, then start it yourself. Someone is usually around to respond.

Someone on this forum posted some great web sites last week. I will see if I can find them by looking back. Perhaps some of these sites will be helpful for you.

As for minimums, my surgeon required that I consume:

Fluids - Minimum 70 ounces per day (I suggest more if you can. I frequently get in well over 100 with no problem.)

Protein - Minimum - 60 grams protein per day.

Calories - My surgeons office did not suggest I count calories. So I do not. However, I use them as a guideline for the things I choose to eat.

I hope this provides a start. Again, I will repost that web site if I find it. Or perhaps the person who posted it last week will see this and report it for you before I do.

All the Best!

Debbie
