I am stoked!  Ok, that's not a word that I usually use, but it is the only one that really seemed appropriate in this case.  Anyway, I just set up my on-line web page for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk.  I have attached the link below.  It is a 2 day 49 mile walk around DC.  I've never walked that far in my life, but when there is a will there is a way and I certainly have the will.  I will be training for the weeks to come and will be trying to raise the $1800 in donations required to participate in the walk, so anything that you could or would donate would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!

Lisa

This has been something that I have thought about doing for a very long time.  But because of the obesity, I knew I would not accomplish.  I can actually see myself doing this now!  It is very exciting on a personal level and also on a larger level that I know I can help someone in their cancer journey!!!

OMG, I think I'm going to cry!  I'm such a baby.

Wow, Lisa! This is a wonderful thing you are doing. And it is that much more significant because of the work you have put in to be able to do it. I admire you greatly!

Another friend of mine some years back did a walk for charity. Besides sending out requests to everyone she knew, a bunch of us also held a yard sale in the Spring and donated all of the proceeds to the cause. It was a tremondous success. It is helpful to find a location with a good amount of traffic. There always seems to be useful things that we need to get rid of, and the work we would put into selling would be for a good cause. Is anyone interested in doing something like this with the proceeds to go to Lisa's effort? We could plan it for March or April. If we do, does anyone have any ideas for a location? What do you think?

Thanks for your support.  I started training last Saturday and realize that I have a lot of work before I can make the 1st day and 26 miles walking, but I am so excited to be able to do it this year!!!  I thought about doing a yard sale, but when we moved the last time, I purged everything that wasn't needed, giving it to goodwill.  I am humbled by your suggestion to do a sale in an effort to raise money for this cause!!!!  That was the thing that I was worried about the most when signing up for this event.  Being able to raise $1800.00.  I likened it to surgery day, when I got to the hospital and the surgeon saying that I couldn't have surgery for one reason or another.

Thanks again!

The yard sale would not do it alone, but it could help. It is challenge to raise this kind of money. And right now it has to look even bigger because you are at the beginning of the process. You are going to need to make everyone you know aware of this project. Perhaps a nearby school would be willing to sponsor you with other types of fund raisers. How about work?

I am confident you can pull this off!

That is wonderful Lisa!  I heard the commercial on the radio this morning for the walk and was thinking, "What a great thing to do!".   Best of luck in your training!!

Thanks so much.  I stared this week at 3 mph and will hopefully work up from there.  I am hoping that this will also help me in loosing this last 40 lbs.
