I graduate from the pureed stage next Tuesday the 13th.  YAY!  But what I've been eating lately doesn't seem like I'm in that "dreaded" pureed stage.  I think it is also because I blend it myself, I know what's in it.  For someone to hand me a pureed item, I'd think twice about touching it.  LOL

Tell me about this "greek" yogurt.  What's so special about it?  I am near two Giants between where I work and live.

And you're right!  Preop- I had soda bottles strewn throughout my car and bags from McDonalds with the chicken nugget boxes, and an occasional potato chip bag - I liked the kettle kind especially the one with the 3 potatoes - blue sweet and lightly salted,  and protein bar wrappers for the days I went straight from work to school and didn't have money or time for fast foods.

Now my car has 3 half drunk water bottles with unidentified flavors.  I need to throw them out before I get charged with alcohol in the car.  LOL

Right there with you!!!  Unless I'm pureeing it myself, pureed food would just seem so "nursing-home-ish!!!"

Greek yogurt (some brands are Fage, Oikos and Chobani), come plain or with fruit added.  But be careful, because fruit added means higher sugars/carbs.  The way it's processed results in its being REALLY high in protein - 6 oz. is 18 grams of protein!!  If you leave it plain, it tastes and can be used like sour cream.  Or, do like I do and sweeten it with Splenda, add Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal and fresh fruit.  Most Giants carry it and Trader Joe's (Pikesville, Towson, Annapolis and Columbia), carries their own brand of it, too.  It's pricey compared to other yogurts, but much more bang for the protein buck!

BTW, do you have a name???  LOL!!  I just feel strange "talking" to you and not addressing you by anything!!  If you'd like to share, that is!

I'm waiting for my nutritionist to get back to me - I think that what we are doing is focusing on Protein as a first - minimum 60 grams daily, then 64 ounces of fluids, and we're minimizing carbs, but I would like to know how many carbs we're allowed - I've also asked to help me understand if it's total carbs or net carbs, and how do we determine the net carbs, and which food is better if they differ in sub-carbs but have the same number of carbs.

Looking at my food diary - I'm averaging 43 total carbs a day.....and that doesn't seem good to me?  some of my high numbers came from whenever I had milk or tomato soups, and even a sugar free fudgsicle has 17 carbs - AHHHHH!.

I'd really love a list that I can check, and it says yes or no you can / can't have it - rather than saying you figure it out.

Once I find out what the deal is - I'll be more relaxed.....and knowledgable.  SIGH.

Awwww I thought everyone got a list. Okay here is what mine says about carbs honey

Carb intake after RNY should be 100-120 grams every day! In early recovery months 1-6 protein is FIRST focus followed by a carb! Most patients have little room the first few months for carbs (Not me I have no issues hehehe)

The brain and central nervous system require a steady supply of glucose(carbs!) When the body doesnt get enough glucose it takes it from your muscle mass and that isnt good at all.

Simple Carbs are absorbed quickly and cause you to produce too much sugar leaving you feeling hungry tired and wanting more sugar.
They have little nutritional value and are called EMPTY calories. This would include
soda, white breads, white rice, white totatoes, many breakfast ceral, candy, and high fructose corn syrup.
Patients who eat a lot of bread and potatoes have less weight loss. Ever heard the old saying "If its white please dont bite!" Fruit is also a simple carb but has naturally occuring sugar packed with nutrients too. Fruit in small portions will NOT cause dumping.

Complex Carbs(whole grains) take a while to absorb resulting in very steady blood sugar levels which allows you to feel FULL! This will give you long lasting ENERGY! Whole grain is also packed with nutrients like fiber. Here are some great carbs to eat
Whole wheat or grain bread, oats, brown rice, whole wheat pastas, beans, peas and veggies.

The following carbs should be AVOIDED they WILL cause dumping and other complications and can slow weight loss
Brown sugar
Candy
Choc
Donuts
Honey
Sodas
Syrup
Cakes
Cookies
Fruited Yogurts
Sherbet
Table sugar
Marshamallows
Canned fruit in syrup
Pudding
Pastries and
Ice Cream!!

Keep sugar BELOW 10 grams TOTAL per each MEAL. Read labels!

Dumping Syndrome is the process in which food rapidly passes into the intestine. This causes an increase in the amount of water that is pulled into the intestine from the blood stream. Symptoms include mild to severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, rapid pulse, weakness and lightheadedness.

Oops I typed on too far. LOL Ok but that was from my carb sheet. hehehe ~Jilly~

Thanks!

I hardly touch any of those no-nos.  I'm not a sweets snacker type of person.

However, I do have the carb smart ice cream and sugar free popsicles - and have drank sugarfree/diet stuff for as long as I could remember.

I have the Lapband so I'm wondering if our carb intake is different because we are not as subject to nutrition issues as those with the RNYs may have....

Okay, I'll go with the "if it's white, don't bite" for now.  Sounds easy enough to remember, like my husband's preferred brand of cereal - he likes the Raisin Bran, Kellogs so I remember Smellogs Kellogs to remember what brand  LOL.
