Depression

I've been feeling really depressed, sad and angry/mean lately.
Working 10 hour days does not make it conducive to weekly doctor appointments with a psych.

Here's a few questions for you...

1. Did you get depressed after surgery?

2. When did it start?

3.How long did it last?

4. Did you need to get meds to help?

5. Did you need to see a psych on a regular basis?

6. Were you able to get meds if needed/wanted from your  WLS?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and responses.

Hey sweetie!!!

You and I discussed this at length yesterday, and like I said, yes, it happens and it's normal.  It's NOT pleasant, but it is normal.

Call me after 10 if you get a chance, we'll talk more!!

Hugs,

Tia

Thanks Tia...

Although it may be normal, I still need to see how others deal or dealt with it.

I've been in a state of waterworks since last night so a phone call is probably out of the question, since I'm trying hard to maintain my composure at work.

I may give you a call on the way home from work tonight.

Thanks &

Then email me if you want!!!  It's easier to maintain composure via email - and it looks like we're BOTH working.

And don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to minimize your feelings, hon, I KNOW you'll get lots of great advice on here!!!!

I'm here for ya!!!

Tia,

I know you weren't trying to minimize my feelings and I do hope to get some responses.

It was difficult for me to finally post that as I generally try to hide my feelings of depression/sadness or inadequacy and usually just withdraw for a while.

I'm hoping instead of advice I get some responses to my questions. I did call my Drs. office and made an appointment for next week.  I'm just not sure how to handle my feelings or understand WHY I feel this way when everything in my life is going very well.

Okay, but keep in mind that I was on a low dose of Effexor for anxiety pre-op.

But......:

1. Did you get depressed after surgery?

I became MORE depressed after surgery.  As we've all found out, they ONLY operated on our stomachs, not our heads.  It takes a LONG time for our heads to catch up.  You may mourn food and the comfort it gave you post-op.  Exercise went a long way to helping me deal with stress.

2. When did it start?

About a month post-op.

3.How long did it last?

My pat answer would be until I saw my PCP and a therapist, who suggested an increase in meds - about two months later.

4. Did you need to get meds to help?

I started out on 75 mg. of Effexor, it was gradually increased to 300 mg., but that caused mood swings itself, so it's back down now to a manageable level.  No mood swings in months now, but YES, I AM still a *****!!!  LOL!!!  One thing to remember is that meds often need to be tweaked - they don't work RIGHT away and may, in fact, take several weeks to build up to a helpful level.

5. Did you need to see a psych on a regular basis?

Yep, I saw Ranesa weekly at first, now it's tapered off to once every other month of so.  The great thing about her is that she's ALWAYS available via phone and returns her calls promptly.

6. Were you able to get meds if needed/wanted from your  WLS?

Did you mean from my wl surgeon?  No.  Nor from Ranesa, as she's not authorized to write scripts.  Howevver, my PCP was happy to work with her to get me back on track.

Hope this helps!!!
