IRS Audit

I mentioned in my earlier post that I was going through an IRS Audit.  I thought I would clarify so that it might help someone else.  I haven't done anything wrong, it's just that I claimed a huge medical deduction for 2007 (because on top of the usual medical bills, etc., I had 2 reconstructive surgeries that I paid out of pocket (1 completely, the other I paid for 2 out of 3 procedures)) for.  Word to the wise - make sure you keep all receipts/cancelled checks (EVERYTHING) pertaining to your surgeries if you plan to itemize your medical deductions for the year in question. 

I have everything, it's just that with moving and getting married, all my stuff is in three different places (my house, Mark's house and my sister's basement) and it's been a little nerve racking to go back and find stuff that I packed in early 2008.

I need to get this stuff copied and turned in to the IRS within the next 10 days.....I feel like a bug under a microscope...yikes!  You may not here from me for the next week or so, depending on when I get this stuff copied.  But I shall return (you're not that lucky to get rid of me...hehehe)



 

Funny that you mentioned this, because I was going to say that I know you're so together that you've got all your documentation - COMPLETELY forgetting about your nomadic adventures this year!!!!!!  LOL!!!

I paid out of pocket $13,000 for plastics but my bill/receipt says Cosmetic instead of reconstructive I was going to to try to claim some of this, my question is did it have to say reconstructive on your receipt?

I haven't gotten that far yet, but I'm thinking you, like me, are going to need a letter from the surgeon stating that it was a reconstructive not cosmetic procedure.
