I am just curious about how many calories do you guys consume a day.  Based on the Feedbag etc.  I am 2 years out and at goal and I eat a whole lot more food than any of you eat (that's why I don't play) it looks like most of you don't even get a thousand so I am curious how many calories and grams of protein is average for you.  Thanks

Hi Steph!!!

Um.........let the flaming begin.  I don't count calories.  Actually, I never did - I just always concentrate on the protein first, and eat that until I'm full.  That could be one of the reasons why I haven't been as successful as I'd hoped.

Truthfully, I'm not even sure of the recommended calorie intake at this point!!  Do you know?

Thanks for making me think!!!

Well Sloan never wanted to quote a calorie amount but I forced her because it's to hard to lose track of how much you are consuming and also you need to know the amount in to know the activity level to burn it off.  I was doing a thousand at the end of the 1st year and 1200 at a year and a half and I try to stay  around 1600 and a minimum of 60 grams of protein now and if I am working out really hard a little more.  Anyway, it's the calories in calories out concept.

Okay, thanks!!!  I need to watch that.  I know there are a couple of good tracking websites, but it's hard to gauge sometimes.  Like today, for instance, I got a salad of spinach & romaine, with grape tomatoes, onions, asparagus, peppers and salmon.  You can't measure at a salad bar - in fact, the only thing with nutritional info is the salad dressing!!!

I don't really keep track of the calories on a daily basis. I have done this only when I get frustrated by stalls to understand what I might be doing to cause this or not. I do look at the calories of products I buy, trying to keep them as low as possible. One inescapable fact for me is that I gain when I do not exercise. As long as I am working out regular, I am able to lose / maintain. I realize that may always be so, but it is for now.

Sometimes the most I can get to is 1,100 to 1,300 calories a day. It is really hard for me to get in more unless they are empty calories. I am still nursing and I am suppose to be cosuming about 1,600 to 1,800 a day and I can never get there, and that is why if I am not careful i keep losing weight. The nursing burns a lot of calories i was told.

Sorry I am not much of help.
Hugs,

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Hey Steph,

I was just recenlty on a website (for some reason I think it was the Health page on the AARP site), where I was able to calculate the number of calories to sustain where I am now (which is NOT where I want to be).   I played with my 'goal' weight and level of activity and came up with a number about 1500 calories per day.

There are sites where you can plug in your numbers, height, weight, level of daily activity (sedentary, moderately active, etc) and get the number of calories to maintain.

Right now I am trying to get back to some basics and lose the pounds I have put on so I can concentrate on losing the 'rest' of them.   I know a lot of mine has been that I have let my activity level dwindle, so while I've given up my gym membership, I have made a commitment to the Leslie Sansone Walking Thin CD set.   That is something I can do at home it's not that tough and one day at a time, I can get through it.   I also know that I have been consuming too many 'empty' calories in the form of wine.   A glass on Saturday night when we go out to dinner has deteriorated into wine at home almost every evening.   THAT is coming to an end as well.

Have my 5 year appointment coming up on March 16 (unless I reschedule it) and I want to weigh LESS than I did at my 4 year appointment!!!

Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!
