RNY open and Dr. Magnuson
I was originally referred to Dr Magnuson in 2001 but had trouble getting past his office staff to actually get an appointment with him, so I put my WLS on hold for several years until 2004. When I did decide to go forward with WLS, I was sure I wanted the procedure done lap. The two surgeons I saw for consults both only did open on patients of my size (actually the one I chose only did open period). After talking to both of them, I decided that I did want open. I was more comfortable with the idea that they had better access and 'view' of my insides open. I was 54 when I had my surgery, so I figured my bikini days were well behind me so a scar up my tummy was not an issue for me (and actually the scar is not that noticeable .. it's like a 4 inch vertical scratch).
I personally think that Open versus Lap is a moot issue .. one is not better than the other and it's a personal decision. I chose my doctor because I liked him and I had faith in him, not because he did one procedure over the other.
Best wishes on your WLS journey.
Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!
If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished. Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago. I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits! Wherever you are in your journey ... It's ALL good!!!
