Hi I am a PA resident. I just went through a rough recovery from having a TT and BL. I went to a doctor over 2 hrs away and that has been very difficult. I am looking for someone closer for the Arm Lift that I intend to have within the next year. Since I live in Lancaster Baltimore is not that far, and so I wondered if any of you have heard or had your Plastics done at Johns Hopkins?

I appreciate any info that you have. Thanks for your time

Sorry,
I can't help you with plastics at JH...but I can tell you that it's one of the best hospitals (if not THE best) in the state.  Good luck...sorry I couldn't really help you!!

Of course its a great hopital but would I go there for an arm lift - no, I wouldn't.  Would I go there if I had a rare cancer that no one else in Baltimore had experience with - yes.  Would I go there with a brain tumor - probably.  But I wouldn't go there for a routine procedure.  St. Joseph's and GBMC are in Towson.  St. Joseph's has a few very good plastics guys.  It's still going to be about 2 hours away from you but its easy to get there from Lancaster and I could give you a few good names.  My SIL used Dr. Ringleman for a rather big procedure - TT - (she had 2 sets of twins not bariatric surgery) and did great.  I plan to see Ringelman when I'm ready for at least a consult.

Adding to what Ellen said, I used Dr. Ringelman for a breast reduction and couldn't be more pleased.  Scar - what scar??  Its been 5 years since that surgery and every time I go in for my annual gyn check up, my doc comments on how great the scar was.  I don't know what other procedures he does, but I would recommend him as a PS doc in a second.  My surgery was at
St. Josephs too.  Good luck

I've known Dr. Ringelman since his first day of residency.  My first day as a nurse and his first day as a resident were the same day - so I've known Paul for almost 25 years!!  I can remember the older physicians commenting on how smart and skilled Paul was when he was still in residency.  He's rather easy on the eyes as well.

My friend had her plastics done by the head of plastic surgery there, Michelle Shermak, and had a really unfavorable outcome. She was left with pretty severe scarring (down past her elbows and knees), loose skin on her stomach, and limited range of motion of her one arm where she had the work done. I met Dr. Shermak and found her to be really unconcerned and almost blaming my friend for her problems. Dr. Shermak also agreed to do a breast lift, arms, tummy tuck, and thigh lift all the same day and from talking to others since, that was just insanity.

JH has not earned my vote for plastics.

Sorry.

For me the quality and the reputation of the Plastic Surgeon was more important than the Hospital, I had a LBL in May and I drove 2 1/2 hours to see him the same with my Bariatric Doc I drove 3 hours to see him because of their experience and the results of their work.  Also, not all Plastic Surgeons have work with all of the skin we have so I also wanted someone experienced with weightloss patients.  Good Luck and research the Surgeons.
