i actually lost 2 pounds over christmas.  mainly because they asked me what i would like to eat for christmas and i told them what i could have LOL  they were very supportive and they probably didn't want me throwing up for christmas LOL

I was a good boy.  I had a slice of processed turkey and a slice of cheese....then went back for a couple olives and about 4 triscuits with another slice of cheese.  I think the only thing i went wild with was my coffee.  i had real half and half with it and the cheese was full fat.  Mom had put a turkey breast in the crock pot with water and chicken bouillon and it was the moistest turkey I had ever had.  I did have some instant mashed potatoes but just a couple spoonfuls.  the rest of the time I ate on cottage cheese.....turkey bacon and real eggs a couple of my veggie burgers.  i did break down and had one of the cookies I made but it was an all natural oatmeal cookie with peanut butter in it and M&Ms and bittersweet chocolate pieces.  it didn't make me sick at all.  that scared me LOL  Oh and one of the presents I got was a HUGE canister of whole cashews!!!!!  and I got enough money to finish my wardrobe.  I'm now less than 10 pounds away from my dad and he gave me all the clothes he can't wear LOL  so NOW I'm ready to start giving away my big clothes.

You did pretty good. That was nice that your family made things they knew you could eat. That is what my Mom did too. Its so much nicer when you know there will be something for you to eat w/o you feeling left out. My Mom sent me home with a whole chicken that was DELICIOUS and Mike made soup out of most of it yesterday in the crock pot too. It was so tender and YUMMY!!!
Your the second person that has mentioned these oatmeal all natural cookies. Where did you get those? I never knew they had such a thing. A friend of mine who had her WLS last May told me she had Pizza Huts new all natural pizza last night and didnt get sick. IM TOO SCARED TO TASTE PIZZA YET! hahahaha

when do you hit regular food?  I had pizza for the first time about 10 weeks out and I have to say.....it went down VERY easy and it scared me.  and you know what, it didn't taste as good as i remember........very flat on the flavor and it was just a pepperoni pizza from Ledo Pizza.  i had one square of it...crust and all and I soaked up the grease on it with paper towels.  i really pressed hard...then i scraped off all the sauce because their sauce is a sweet sauce.......i think it's really too  much effort for a slice of pizza.  now with one of my concoctions that Tia gave me, i really dig.

take a glass baking dish and spry it with Pam olive oil spray
take a spoonful or two of fat free ricotta cheese and flatten it into a circle.  Put some italian seasonings or garlic salt on it.  Take some low carb pizza sauce (I use Ragu pizza sauce with the green lid on it) and put it on top of the ricotta. spread it around so it's all covered.  get some low fat parmesan cheese and sprinkle it on top of the pizza sauce and then take some low fat or fat free (I don't recommend the fat free because it bakes up really HARD and would be hard to eat so i use the part skim) mozzarella cheese and put it on top.  Then hit it was another dash of italian seasonings or garlic salt.  Bake it at 350 for about 30 minutes or less ****il all the cheese is melted).  it's soft and goes down real easy.  most times I'll put a chicken tenderloin in there too on top of the ricotta or one of my veggie burgers in there.  it's all really good and you hit that pizza craving with a big protein punch with very little carbs and a little bit of fat (but we can tolerate fat much better than sugar).

Wow that sounds very yummy - I was planning to scrape off the top of a pizza on to a plate, and throwing the crust away.  I'm a Pizza Hut Super Supreme gal - or should I say "was" until I taste it again.?   I loved having everything (except anchovies and pineapple) on my pizzas, and my husband used to call it "a salad on bread".  I wanted to have pizza within the first week of being able to eat solids. which is in about two more weeks unless the Doc says otherwise.

I keep thinking about that cheese, pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, mushroom, green pepper, red onion, black olives........*sigh*

Wow!!!  You did great!!!  But you're a perfect example of how nothing tastes as good as thin(ner) feels!!!  You had to be flying high as a kite when everyone's jaw**** the floor!!!  LOL!!!!

That's great, too, that they wanted to be aware of what you could and couldn't eat.  Family support is so important!!!!

Hugs,

T

oh very much so and they knew that I needed the surgery.  i mean I was the biggest member of the family for many years and they knew that the surgery was important for me.  I gave them all an education before i got there and it really was the best thing I could do.  I'm quite lucky that they listened and are supportive enough to do that for me.  I have tons of low fat triscuits LOL

I was bad and need a spanking.  It was more about what I ate before the holiday than on Christmas day.  I was so busy cooking and making sure everyone else was fed I didn't eat that much.  I have maintained, but have only lost about 3 lbs in the last 4 weeks (NOT GOOD).  So today I had a protein shake for breakfast and an egg and some imitation crab for lunch.  I've got to get back on this program.  I've got to learn to be carb free!!!  Somebody help me PLEASE!

I feel your wanting to be carb-free pain!!!!  Unfortunately, other than cold-turkey, there's really no way to avoid them.

Although it's easier said than done, I think what we need to do is go back to our surgeon's initial edicts of:  protein first and foremost, then some veggies if you still have room, and little to no refined carbs at all.

With RNY, provided you're getting in your protein and fluids, you SHOULDN'T be hungry.  Any "hunger" that I feel, even at 3+ years post-op, is merely head hunger, which, as we know, is the devil to fight.

So.........just say no to carbs!!!  Perhaps our motto should be, "Carb-free and feeling fine in 2009"?!!!!!

Yes, it sucks at times, and yes, we probably will always have a struggle - but at least we've been given a powerful tool with which to fight it!!!!

Hugs,

Tia
