and what if any were the requirements? Was anyone denied, and then appealed and approved? I'm looking into a revision to DS from my current RNY? Just tryig to gather info and get a heads up. I wont have insurance until January due to me getting married and aquiring Aetna HMO through him.
Thanks in advance.

My requirements were 6 months of supervised visits. But my surgeon had a multidisciplinary program so my insurance accepted 3 months.  I don't know with your case having a revision what they might ask for.  I had no problems with my Aetna HMO and I was approved 2 days after submitting t the insurance.  Did you find out if aetna covers the DS? It wasn't covered by mine.  But all Aetnas are not the same so it is good to call them and ask.

Welcome to the MD forum. Congratulations on your marriage.

Best of luck!

Hi Susan ;o) Do you have a 1 800 number on the back of your card? If you call them you can request a case worker for free someone who can help you get approved for your revision. I dont have that insurance but a friend of mine does. Good luck honey. ;o)

If you go to the link below, it is the Aetna policy for Obesity surgery as of 05/23/2008 and is up for review in February.  The policy lists the requirements.  I would double check to make sure that your husband's company does not have an exclusion to this, as some do.

Once I had a consultation with my surgeon and fulfilled all the requirements set forth in the policy, I was approved within 30 days of all my paperwork being submitted to insurance by the surgeon's office.  However, I was not a revision patient.

Good Luck and welcome to the Maryland board.
