Am I in the right place? Need to talk to some WLS'ers before I make my final decision
Welcome to the MD MB and no you are not being a boob. You have some valid concerns and fears. Continue with your diet and research. Hopefully the research will help you become more comfortable as well as CONFIDENT in your decision. CONGRATS on recving approval from your insurance company -- I know that is one of the stressful parts of this process
The only time I regret having RNY is when I'm at a great cook-out and know that I can't eat everything at once other than those times -- I don't have any regrets. I love getting on a plane and sitting in the middle seat and not to ask for a seatbelt extension or being able to sit in a seat at a sporting event or at the movies and still have room left overs -- those times -- I don't regret for once making the decision to have RNY.
As far a the negatives -- I had dumping once -- and that is because I ate too fast. Loose skin -- have it -- ain't too much worried or concerned about it. I have it on arms and thighs but think I can get the arms muscled up enough where the little sagging want matter. Don't go UGH about muscling up. I read an article about a year again that women lose muscle every year -- so it's okay if we bulk up because we loose it as well. I'd rather have too much than not enough.
Yes, some of us tend to whine about the issues we had or have with WLS; however, it passes and we're glad we made whatever decision it was we made.
So think POSITIVE thoughts -- search within yourself as to whether or not you're mentally ready to go through this process and if not -- that is your decision. Just think of the positives that will come with the surgery -- deletion of other health issues and an increase in quality of laugh.
Peace and Hairgrease

Yes will be trying on that positive slant
and hope I can figure something out....Hey I totally agree on the weight training and
'bulking up'
I am a huge fan of those weight resistance bands and small balls....I have gotten in the habit of using them while watching tv...and they've made a HUGE difference in my under arm flab....they really do work! The thing is though....you have to keep it up...cause if you stop...the dreaded jigggggglies come baccccccccccck!

Surgery is very emotional, it will be an up and down hormonal roller coaster for the first 6 months or so. If you can't handle it, do yourself a favor and don't get surgery. (do us the same favor because we won't want to listen to your whiney ass for months saying "i shouldn't have done it"...lol).
Surgery sucks, recovery sucks...living with the DS ROCKS!!!! I love my DS.....it was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. I never would have survived all the vomiting with the lap band, or the dumping and food getting stuck in a stoma with the RNY.....and then to lose all that weight with those surgeries and have to struggle to maintain it, or regain? HELL NO!!! Couldn't have done it.
As for the excess skin....sucks but that's the price of being obese, once you damage skin, it is damaged and has to be fixed surgically.

Hey Scott
keep some of your whinney opinions to yourself. There is little or no vomitting to lapband unless you don't listen to the doctors instructions. Which I suppose you don't because you are too busy whinning. Don't post things that are not true, it doesn't help anyone. According to you the only good procedure is the one you had.....................OIC But you are right in that we did this to ourselves . Now we all have to live with what we did and try to find the best solution to help fix it.

Lets see you've been on OH for about 10 minutes...and you're making a blunt statement that those that vomit are vomiting with the lap band becaue they do not follow their doctors directions?
ROFL. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? The lap band causes people to vomit all the time, regardless if they follow the directions or not. It's just a terrible procedure, I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy...ok maybe I'd recommend it to them...lol.
The lap band fails very close to 7 out of 10 people; and the 3 out of 10 it "helps" only lose about 50 percent of their excess weight. Some of the hospitals in Europe which origionally tested the current bands have now stopped doing them, because they found that the band is an ineffective treatment for obesity.
The only good procedure is the one you can live with, but if you want to talk about superior WLS procedures, yes the DS is superior. Statistically it allows people to lose more of their excess weight, keep it off permanently, and it resolves more comorbidities then any other WLS currently available. So is the DS superior...yep.

How long I have been on OH has no bearing on the fact that you are wrong about the lapband. I know people with it and they do not vomit.YES, it will cause problems if you force food down your throat like a pig. The doctors instruct you as to what you may expect if directions are not followed or diet is not restricted. Forcing your opinions on people does not help them or you for that matter. I don't get my education from reading emails, do you ????? The lap band is not for the morbidly obese from what I have read. and disgussed with the doctors. You won't lose as much weight as the other types of surgeries buy you will lose more than dieting alone. The procedure is not terrible and the surgery isn't either. I know people who have had the surgery. You are right that the only good procedure is the one that is right for you. I'm glad you are happy with your decision.

here's a link to a post about people that had to get a band revision because the band sucks ass. some me these people's stories are repeated over and over and over again on posts by others on oh who are experiencing the same vomiting and reflux from the band while following their doctor's orders. Sorry to tell you that you can have all kinds OF band issues without it being your own fault!
