I dont know personally about the sugar. Now I know I am allowed to have some. I think its 11grams I cant go past. I drank these pre op and they were AWESOME! I can't have them now but I know a few of you drink them so I wanted to share this email I got for some free samples. I think you may need to pay a small amt for shipping because I did before. ;o)

You might want to check, but I know Slim Fast was on my No-No list for after surgery!

Yeah I think its more for those in the Pre-OP have to lose weight before surgery phase. I know I could have it pre-op. I have not had any since surgery. It does have sugar. I know Mary B said I will need SOME sugar but at this point I feel like its my enemy!! But I dont want my body into any shock either LOL But these shakes were AWESOME before surgery. ;o)

I was told that slim fast has too many Gall Bladder issues.

Oh I know its crazy. Anything that causes you to lose weight quickly will mess up your gall bladder. Same with the RNY which is why I will need to start meds next week (Actigal I think) to stay on and prevent those issues. But there are support groups for men and women who have lost their gall bladder due to Jenny Craig, La Weight loss, Pills, Slim fast etc. Its insane!! People do need to be careful. That is why they always throw that "Consult with your Doc before you go on ANY weight loss diet". We just cant have it easy. LOL

I was using one of the Slim Fast formulations early on. This looks like an even newer formulation. They have a couple of different ones, some with better protein, carbs, and sugars than others. I still have some in the refrigerator as back up. I simply have migrated on to other food / shake choices since then. I find that I tend to do that, have different "favorites" from time to time. I had never heard about a potential gall bladder impact. However, my gall bladder was taken out when I had my RNY, so I guess that is not a concern for me.

I think the choice of a lot of the different products out there really depends on each individual's likes and tolerances. It is good to be aware of all of the options. But what works for one, may not work for another.

You are so right Debbie. No two people can tolerate the same things. :o)

I have to take medicine for my gallbladder too. Mine was still very healthy so my doc did not take it out during surgery so I take an extra pill to help keep it healthy...lol

BUT....Slim Fast actually *does* make a protein shake version. It is Low Carb/Low Sugar (only 3grams) and it has 20 grams of protein. However I cant drink it because like every other protein shake the protein smell gags me.......

Thanks April. I didnt know they made a protein one at all. Slim Fast worked awesome for me for 6 mos pre op but if I would have stayed on that I would have started eating WAY TOO MUCH AGAIN! LOL
