Exercise, Gyms, Classes? What do YOU Do?
There are a lot of things you can do. The best thing to do is find out what you like the best because you are most likely to stick with it if you like it. Some people join gyms, workout groups, neighborhood groups, do things on their own, etc.
I joined a gym. I go to the MAC in Timonium. They also have a location downtown and a mini location in Hunt Valley. I like it there because of the extensive facilities and the fact that I felt comfortable. When I first started this life change, I was terribly out of shape and embarrassed by my size. The MAC is more about real people of all shapes and sizes trying to do something good for themselves. They made me feel comfortable right from the start. When I began, I could barely do the treadmill for 10 minutes and weights were at a very low amount. I was able to build up over time. Now I vary my workouts with water classes and Pilates Reformer classes in addition to other cardio/weight training.
There are other great programs out there too. I have heard people talk about the things that they have done, which sound good too. Again, you have to pick what is right for you.
I don't think insurance picks up the cost of exercise unless perhaps it is being done as physical therapy for an injury. Some employers offer their employees discounts at different gyms. Usually the cost of membership is up to the individual. Sometimes you can cathc a promotion at a gym to try out their facilities for a short term, i.e. 30 or 60 days before you make a longer term commitment.

What area are you in?
I try to walk when I can. I dont' have time for the gym with a 1 year old running around. I've been looking for a gym that has daycare, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm getting a Wii and Wii Fit for Christmas, so we'll see how much of a workout that gives me! :)
I've never heard of insurance covering for a gym membership - although I think they should!

I have a Wii Fit, but after a month or so after my surgery. I joined a gym. The Wii Fit didn't give me the workout I was looking for. I find it is good for some easy exercise on non-gym days.
I go to the gym 3-4 times per week for about an hour each visit. I do 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training. When I go consecutive days, I don't do strength training 2 days in a row, so I do about an hour of cardio.
I think most of the time you pay for your own gym membership. There are many gyms out there so you need to find one that fits your needs (classes, pool, etc.)
