Hello OH Family,

Anybody out there with Severe Sleep Apnea. I went for my sleep study last night and I have it and I cried like a baby.

I had it preop:  and now I don't think I have it anymore but I need a sleep study to prove it and I don't want to go thru that again LOL :  I know I don't snore anymore ; thats been confirmed
by several people .  I have a CPAP which I know is a pain - but the months I used it preop I must admit I slept better then I had in years.

Thanks you guys. Now that I know I have that nothing is going to stop or make me change my mind about this surgery.

hey sweetie!  Having sleep apnea isn't the end of the world :)  I had it for a long time.  Dr. Ks office will need a copy of your sleep study results.  If you get a CPAP to use, Dr. K will insist that you bring it in with you when you come for surgery.  I brought mine but I never used it because the nose tubes that they had on me was sufficient enough pressure for me to not get apnea (I guess I'm on the light apnea spectrum).  Just remember, it adds fuel to the fire when going for approval with the insurance company :)

Thanks Aaron, before the procedure the technician told me taht if she has to come in the room and put me on a machine that means I meet the protocols and when she came ans woke me up I started crying for 15- 20 minutes I had to get together before she could put the mask on me, than I had issues with which mask they were going to use becasue I breath out of my mouth and it felt like I was sufficating with just the nose mask. I appreciate the support.

Well you know......when they gave me my CPAP to take home with me, I think I may have used it for 3 or 4 days then I put it away.  It really didn't work for me because they gave me the nose mask and I would find myself all dried out (even with the built in humidifier) and snoring through my mouth.  Also, for the most part I was a stomach sleeper and still am......when I sleep on my stomach, I don't get the apnea episodes so I guess the CPAP really wasn't for me.......but I can tell you that if you can get used to sleeping with it, it will make a HUGE difference in your life.  When I went in for my second sleep study with the CPAP on, i woke up after sleeping only 5 hours and felt like I had slept for 24!  It was the best sleep I ever had.

They have several types of masks  :  I was a mouth breather too and the one I ended up
with covers my mouth as well:  when you get the machine ask them if you can try
the different types of masks on.

I'm going for a sleep study in February and I'm afraid I'll have sleep apnea too. Both of my parents sleep with CPAP machines.  Hopefully, if I do have it, it will go away after I lose weight. Hopefully the same goes for you!
