B-12 Question??

Hello Everyone:

I was wondering what types of B-12 are you taking and what brands? I received my first B-12 shot during my 1 month appt. (I prefer the monthly shot so I will not have to worry about it) however, I made an appt with my PCP doctor since I have to see her for my thyroid condition but will not see her until Jan. So, I purchased some nature's best sublingual B-12 and took one yesterday. Question is I am not sure if I need to take these everyday or not until I see my PCP. Please advise on what exactly I need to do here I am so confused right now..... What do you do and how often do you take the pills?

Too much on the brain with finals and all.

Thanks

Danielle

Danielle,

Sometimes doctor's/nutritionist's protocols are different.  For me I have the option of shots or sublingual.  Sublingual can be 1000 mcg every other day or 500 mcg every day.  I take Twinlabs sublingual B-12, 500 mcg every day.  I haven't had my first set of labs yet to see if everything looks okay, but until then I continue to follow my surgeon's instructions.

Hey Danielle:

I take a 2000 mcg pill once a week.  Dr. K's instruction were to take 500mcg each day or 2000 mcg once a week.  Seems to be working well for me.  I think mine are the CVS brand.

Just make sure not to take the dog food (LOL)!!!

Thanks, he was running around me after I said food and after looking at the bag I was thinking about the B-12.

However, I can take 1 pill one time a day or 2 every other day.

Thanks,

Danielle

I give myself injections once a month. The vits and syringes were about $14 for a years supply. It doesn't hurt, and for me is easier to remember.
Hugs!

I have been taking the Trader Joes brand of sublingual B12 since the surgery almost 3 years ago.  They come in a little bottle of 100 pilIs- I get the one that also has B6 and a few other B's in it---its around 7-8 bucks a bottle.  I recall hearing Vit B12 (and all B's)  is water soluable so it must be taken daily if you are taking it by mouth- otherwise it passes thru in your urine.  My B12 levels were actually on the border of high with the last blood test- which is not a concern - but good to know sublingual is working/absorbing.
I tried the B12 RX Nascobal (nasal gel application once a week) and I didn't like the red gel inside my nostril- not usre it absorbed and I don't like stuff in my nose.

Hi Danielle,

I take the monthly shot and my dr gives me a 1 year RX and I get 3 months supply with the syringe and refill every 3 months.  It is not painful and better than going to the doc's office. I have never taken the sublingual so I can not offer advice there. But one thing you can do is call DVR's office and ask them what is their recommendation. By the way DVR is the one who writes out my RX and I just submitted no need for my PCP to order it.  I would ask them to call in for you at your pharmacy or mail you a prescription.

Take care!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
