OMG . . . it's happening!!!!

As many of you know, i do purchasing for my company.  Well, I have many nice suppliers and they always send me holiday gifts.

So my first gift last week was a huge box of wrapping paper ~ with bows, tape, bags, ribbon.  How great, right?!!!

Well yesterday I had a guy bring me a box of Hershey chocolate.  I put it out on our community table and someone asked if they could open it.  I of course said yes and they did.  Thankfully it was wrapped bars and not that big block of chocolate that you chip and people eat off of for days.  So after it was opened, i passed out the bars, excluding myself.

Today, however, I had a guy drive down from PA and bring about 6 dozen soft Philadelphia PRETZELS!!!!  OMG!!!! I've put them out on the community table.  Which happens to be right outside of my office and they are smelling SOOOOO good.

I have been having some issues with food, since Thanksgiving.  I'm having to remind myself that Thanksgiving was just one day and not a whole week / month and I gave myself a new start on Wednesday trying to make good food choices.  So I AM NOT GOING TO HAVE A PRETZEL!!!  I am writing this here, because if I write it ~ it is so.  No going back now.

I don't know if I can make through the end of the year, knowing that Fisher's popcorn and Virginia peanuts and more are coming, but I know I'm going to make it through this episode.

Thanks for all that read and support!!!!

Lisa,

Even if you eat something festive (I will put it that way) you should only be able to eat a very small peice. For example I was in New Jersey last week and had a piece of soft pretzel but I can only eat a 1 inch to 2inch piece then I am done.  So don't be too hard yourself- we have already given up so much for our new lifestyle.

 Hugs,

Terri :)

Lisa, You have hit on something that is very real as you get further out from surery - that is learning how to live in the real world in a controlled fashion. You have to be able to give yourself permission to have some things. This is not a punishment. At the same time we have to train our "old habits" brain, not to want to overdo they way we used to. I have been struggling with this a lot. For me, if it is in the office, I won't touch it. In fact I am one of the people who brings things into the office in the first place. However, if I have it at home, it is a terrible battle. I have trouble stopping. All of this is a challenging adjustment. You will have to decide when it is OK to give yourself permission and when it is not something that you want to do. It may take some trial and error. I have discovered for me that I am better off not starting some things, because I am not good at controlling them. Or I onyl allow these things in an environment where I know I can control them.

I think we will all get there. It sounds like you have made some wonderful decisions. Keep up the good work!

My brain hasn't yet adjusted to my new (smaller) self.  I still see myself the same.  I can't see the weight loss, like other people have told me they see.  I'm so afraid of going back to the 300lb mark!!!   ~  OMG, I think I need therapy!!!

Popcorn without the candy coating is a complex carb, which is good for you.  peanuts are protein and fat.  I can see why you feel worried about the pretzels, but like terri said, if you have yourself a small portion you may stop thinking about wanting one.  Take it easy on yourself.

Ter:

That's my problem.  I just can't stop at one bite.  I'll one bite my way all the way to the end of the pretzel.  I'll wait for the peanuts.

Terri's right, Lisa, cut yourself some slack, girl.

Even as far out (???? LOL) as I am, I could NEVER do more than a small piece of soft pretzel!!!  Pre-op, I loved them slathered with cream cheese!!!!!  Gee, wonder WHY I needed wls???  Now, like the Brill Cream commercial said, "A little dab'll do ya!!!"

I think you'll find that even if you have eating issues, they're nowhere near what they were pre-op.

As far as the peanuts, as long as they're not the toffee-covered ones, peanuts ARE protein!!!  Again, cut yourself some slack, and if you think you can stop at just a little taste, go ahead.  If you think you're going to go hog wild and be puking in the bathroom in the afternoon - remind yourself that I'm not there to wipe your face with a cool washcloth!!!!  LOL!!!!

Hugs,

Tia

I have been "grazing" since Thanksgiving.  I told myself, it's okay to have that spoonful of macaroni & I can have a fork of dressing.  I gained weight.  If I eat a piece of that pretzel, I'll want one an hour from now, and then an hour after that, and so on and so on.  I know me and I'm just not having one.  I wore my 18 jeans today (and not 18W's) which are snug and bought 16W's at the store last night and refuse to go back into 20's.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I'm not going to sabotage myself by making bad food choices.  (that's my mantra for today ~ and I'm sticking with it!!!)

Love you guys!!!!

It's like ANY addiction - and recognizing it is a huge step!!!  We're all different, so YOU do whatever YOU need to do to stay on track.

I know you want to share with the office, but if you get something that's sealed (like the peanuts and chocolates), and they're given to YOU as a gift rather than to the office, send it to school with your grandsons.  Regift for teachers, the office staff, whatever.  Yes, I said regift.  If you don't want to do that, send it to their teachers with a note that you thought the class might enjoy it.

Out of sight IS out of mind!!!!

Hope this helps a little, you skinny cutie pie!!!!!!!

Thanks for the ideas.  A regift for the grands teachers is a great idea!!!!  I'll send you the Fishers' (I know you love it) (LOL).  I need to do anything necessary not to let me eat it, including throw it away (there, I said it).  I have a problem with that one since we were always taught to eat everything on our plates, because there were starving children in Africa that needed the food and we were being ungrateful if we didn't finish ours.
I read somewhere that Jillian Michaels (from the biggest loser) will even go as far to pour candle wax on her food if she is at a restaurant and doesn't want to eat what remains.  She says anything that you have to do that will make you not eat it.  WOW.
