Got To See My New Plumbing Today...
I have been dealing with some stomach problems for about 3 months now. Something similar to heartburn...but they aren't sure yet what is causing it. But that is not what this post is about.
I had to go in for an upper g.i. series this morning. During the first part of the test I was standing and could not see the screen, but the second part had me lying down and I could see the screen clearly.
The Dr. running the test let me watch and, after a couple of questions from me, took great pride in showing me what I was looking at. I could see, on the screen, how everything was working. It really was neat.
I could see were the connection below the pouch hooked up with the small exit from my old stomach. We could even pick out (although very dim because there was not contrast) my old stomach. It was fascinating to see how quickly liquid fell out of my pouch. It was also nice to see that I had not stretched my pouch nearly as much as I had imagined.
I hope you never have to have one of these...but if you do, and you get an accomodating doctor...it is amazing to see how all this works...real time!
Enjoy your day,
Dave

I hope they get to find out what is bothering you soon. I remember going through some major burning and pain sensation they gave me carafate for 2 weeks and continued taking my prevacid and it went away. Good luck with everything.
It is amazing to see how the plumbing works.
How is Grace and the girls doing? We miss you all very much. Gino says hello!
Don't be such a stranger.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

No...no real burning or severe pain. Just an uncomfortable sensation with some nausea. It follows anything solid I eat but will show up occasionally without any food.
I played around with various foods to see if anything in particular would cause it...but it seemed to just be solid stuff. But...after a while, it just seemed to last most of the day and then it would wake me up during the night.
Dr. put me on nexium and it went away immediately. I was on the nexium for about 2 months. I came off and three days later it was back, in full force. So they put me back on and ordered the UGI and Ab Ultrasound.
They are not acting quickly enough for me to worried that it is something serious. I know he was looking at galblatter...but since it is responding to nexium...he is pretty sure that is not the problem. So...I think they were looking for stricture or leaks and possibly an ulcer today. Not sure...we will see.
As long as I am on the nexium...I feel fine...so no big deal. They will figure it out eventually. It was just fun to see how everything was working!
Grace and girls are doing great. Jayme's soccer team just won the championship in her league and Laura (the older one) is still singing and dancing!
Take care,
Dave

When I spoke to Dr. G at my one year, I asked if I should keep coming to him for issues or go to my PCP. He said, unless it was blatently obvious that it was RNY related, that I should see my PCP first. Then, if he was stumped or I did not feel confident in the diagnosis, to contact Dr. G.
So far so good. Dr. Margolis seems to understand the issues with RNY and acts accordingly.
The other side of this is that over the last 6 months or so, I am feeling much more like a normal person and less like a weight loss surgery patient. With my running, I have met some folks that have no idea I was obese less than 2 years ago. They talk to me and treat me like anyone else who is new to running but otherwise in shape. It is really nice to be identified by what I CAN do rather than what I CAN DO NOW.
Oh well...test results should be back tomorrow...so we will see what the verdict is. Hopefully, it is something that can be fixed without cutting me open again.

Great to see you post, though sorry it's under the cir****tance of not feeling so great! I had issues with a surgical ulcer and resulting small fistula about 5 to 6 months out from surgery. The ulcer healed and the fistula closed up, but I think I am destined to take prilosec forever! There are worse things.
Hope things are going well otherwise.
Hugs, Mo
Comparison is the thief of joy!
If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished. Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago. I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits! Wherever you are in your journey ... It's ALL good!!!
