Does anyone take B-12 shots?  I get one each month from my doc and the cost is $25.00.  I was wondering if anyone gives themselves the shot?

Hi Linda!!!!

LONG TIME, NO SEE!!!!!!!  How's things?

I just can't do it - can't give myself a shot, so I was getting it at my PCP's office, for about the same amount, but now I do the Bariatric Advantage sublinguals.

Stick around!!!

Hugs,

Tia

I do my own shots, and it's much cheaper.  My PCP writes me a script for a large vial that lasts a year, and writes a script for the needles.  The large vial only cost me $10 at walmart.  That's a huge savings compared to $25 per shot from your PCP.  If your not timid about giving yourself a needle, ask your doctor if you can have a script so you can give them to yourself.

Thanks for the replies, this site is always so helpful!  I was on insullin shots for a long time and didn't have a problem, but those shots were in my tummy.
The doc's office give me the shot in my arm muscle.  Where do you place your shot?

I give my shot on my thigh, easy and not painful.

I can't do the shots at all.  I bought a bottle of B-12 1000mcg and I take them sublingual everyday.  Much easier for me...  And it only costs me like $20 for 250 pills.

I do the sublinqual tablets from Trader Joes- my blood levels are fine but Ihave heard fom others they have "more energy" when the get the shot.    I tried the newer Rx B12 nasal gel which had a $40 mail in rebate but I didn't like having to squirt red gel up my nostril 1x a week.  Not sure it was really being absorbed either.  My understanding is the B12 shot has to go into a muscle (IM) like the flu shot etc.  If you did the insulin shots - it probably not much different then the B12 one as far as being able to get beyond the fear of self injection.  Once plus about Rx B12 and doc visits is that you can deduct it from a pre-tax  health care spending account whereas OTC vitamins are not eligible.

My wife gives me the shot - I'm too babified to do it myself.

On the pre-tax healthcare - check with your provider.  We have Wageworks and if you have a letter of medical necessity from your doc then OTC Vitamins are covered.
