Misadventures on Bush River

So I am on a boat for work today, taking data. It's cold so I am wearing three layers of shirts and two layers of pants. On occasion we have to stick this pole in the water to see what the depth is. so we are coming up to a deck and i climb out onto the front of the boat and lean over to grab onto the piling. then my boatmate reverses gears just a bit and I fly into the air and into the water. It is 55 degrees in that freakin water. I start breathing heavy and trying to swim to a location to figure out how to get the heck outta there. I am freaking out a bit and I see a man running from the pier to help. keep in mind both my boatmate and this guy are in their sixties so I wasn't sure how they were going to pull a 252 lb woman with three layers of clothing out of the water. Bud, my mate, finds a ladder and I try to use that. but it keeps moving so I can't pull myself up out of there. Then the other gentlemen suggests I swim over to the front of the pier, which was only 20 ft away or so and climb out there. Luckily that works and I'm able to reach the bottom and climb out. So I sit there for a bit soaking and freezing. The gentleman (don't know his name) asks me if I would like to wear his wife's clothes. I say yes but in the back of my mind, I am thinking, will I fit into these? In the meantime, bud gave me his sweatshirt and I actually fit into it. Yes I did take my clothes off on a boat with a man there. he was very respectful. when the other guy came back, he brought me to a bathroom where I did the rest of my changing into clothes that fit perfectly. then we were on our way. the other guys that were in another boat first didn't believe me when I said I fell. then i stood up and said, am i wearing the same clothes? needless to say I will not be living this down anytime soon but my company better pay for a new phone.

so that was my day. exciting huh?

OH..............MY................GOD!!!!  You poor thing.

Okay, normally I wouldn't advocate this, BUT..............you have my permission to:

Drink some wine

Scarf some chocolate

Eat a Chick Fil-A sandwich

I'll say it again - OH..............MY.................GOD!!!

How to put this into perspective?  Pre-op, you WOULDN'T have even been on the boat - I know it, you know it, yellow dog knows it.  You WOULDN'T have fit into a man's sweatshirt.  You most likely would've said, "No, really, it's not that cold - y'all go on without me!" just to avoid having to ATTEMPT to pull yourself out of the water, thereby pulling a Leonardo DiCaprio and freezing to death.  And........pre-op, you would NOT have told this story on a public forum - you would've been too embarrassed.

DO YOU SEE HOW FAR YOU'VE COME?  You have the ability to (hopefully) laugh at yourself.

I'm glad you're okay.......don't worry, I won't even say, "Call me!" since that doesn't seem to be an option!!  LOL!!!

Love ya,

Tia

OMG Nic Thank God you are ok!

I would have drowned since I can't swim if it depended on my life! I hope your employer will make it up to you! Sorry about your phone, glad you are ok though.  I totally agree with Tia you definitely need to reward yourself tonight.

((((((((hugs)))))))))

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

OMG Nicole what an experience!!  I have to say, though, way to go that you fit into his wife's clothes, and were OK with changing with him right there!  Hugs!

Hey, look at it this way, you got to exercise on your company's dime!

Isn't it a great feeling that you fit into those clothes?  The other day I put on my H's hoodie and I seriously started wiggling my butt around the living room and jumping up and down.  Not only could I not fit into it before, I could neither wiggle my butt or jump up and down!

I do hope that you can get your phone replaced!  Do you get hazard pay for this?
