Food Item Questions

I've been reading a lot of "Daily Feeds" from the past to get some ideas of what I will be eating and I have come across a couple items that I don't know of.

#1- Greek yogurt- what is this and where do I find it? Does it taste like normal yogurt?

#2- Bimbo bread- what is this? What does it taste like? When can I start eating it? Where can I get it?

I know, so many questions...

Hi Lauren,
You can read all about it at these links below.  Greek yogurt is very thick and creamy and has 14 grams of protein.  Very good plain but some folks sweeten it with splenda or honey or add fruit.  I like Fage and Oikos, but there are a ton of brands.
I have never tried Bimbo prebiotic bread, but this sounds very interestign and I'm going to read more about it.

Hi Lauren -

I'm glad Jen gave you the info on the yogurt.  I LOVE this stuff and have gotten quite a few others addicted to it!!!

There are several brands, including the two Jen listed.  Trader Joe's sells their own brand, and lately, I've been buying Chobani, because it's easy to find at Giant.  Greek yogurt, because of the way it's processed, is thicker and higher in protein.  Left unsweetened, you can use it like sour cream - I make dip out of it and also use it to top chili, tacos, black bean soup, refried beans, etc.  For breakfast, I like to sweeten mine with Splenda and top it with fruit and Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal, which is like granola, but higher in protein.  It is VERY versatile.  A little $$, too, but a little goes a long way.

I'm not familiar with the bread that Jen posted.  What I refer to as Bimbo bread/toast is simply a very well toasted bread that I found in the Latino section of my local grocery store, it's manufactured by Bimbo - hence, Bimbo bread!!   I have a really hard time with breads, can only do toast, and this fit the bill, giving me crunch and a little protein, with very few calories.

Hope this helps!!!  If you need any other suggestions, ask away.  It's all about being creative and willing to try new things.

Hugs,

Tia

Thank you so much Jen and Tia!

I will definitely be hitting up Trader Joes this weekend. That yogurt sounds perfect. I am not too into the powders so I need to eat high protein food to get my protein in! Thank goodness I like the adkins protein shake. I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch. When will I be able to add that to the greek yogurt? After I introduce soft foods I suppose. As for the bimbo bread... is this in a normal grocery store? It sounds like a great first bread to introduce to my new pouch! Thanks again girls! If anyone can think of any other food item great for wls patients, please post!

Hey Lauren -

You're welcome!!  That's what we're here for!!!

You shouldn't have any problems with the yogurt once you're on soft foods.  As far as adding the cereal, wait until you're on solids for a bit - just do a little at a time to see how your pouch tolerates it.

My local grocery store has a small Latino selection, so I'm assuming that any grocery store that has a Latino section would carry something similar.  It's not something I do often, but it DOES satisfy the need for crunch more than the need for bread.  I was never THAT kind of carb eater - for me, it was all about sweets.

I'll think of some more food ideas and pm you when I have a sec!!!

Tia
