Hey Colleen~
I won't be able to make tomorrow's meeting but I will be at the November 12th meeting! Maybe you could share some of the information with me!? I am so sick of the liquid diet. How was the pureed diet for you? And what are some good ideas for the blender? (Sorry I know it's off the topic!)

I know you aren't asking me, but some of the things I ate on the puree phase were:

-yogurt (Dannon Lite n Fit vanilla since I was afraid of fruit pieces in other flavors, I bought the kind in the 4 pack and they were smaller sized so better for me since I couldn't eat much)
-sugar free pudding - butterscotch (My fav flavor and they don't make the SF butterscotch in the ready to eat cups)
-cream of chicken soup in the blender
-refried beans a little further down the line in purees with some melted cheddar on top
-ricotta bake
-roast beef hash (a little further down the line)
-no sugar added popsicles (both fudgesicle and edy's fruit)
-Campbell's Bean and Bacon soup in the blender
-tuna and mayo with a little sweet pickle juice in the blender

I threw up a lot trying new foods, though.  Scrambled eggs made me have a particularly bad episode.  I still almost throw up a lot, though.  However, I'm completely abnormal as far as WLS patients go.  My main staples are yogurt, cheddar cheese sticks and soups.  And I'm 6 months out.  But I did have eggs the other day and did fine.  So if something doesn't sit well one day, it may the next week.

You could also do oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc.  But I don't like that stuff.  Well, I like oatmeal with about a cup of brown sugar on it.  I decided that wouldn't be a very good idea.

Wow, I hope I don't get sick! I'm so scared of throwing up! What did Casey say about your tolerant level to foods? Thank you so much for all of the great ideas. I am so sick of liquids and the thought of blending food to mush does not appeal to me right now either. I bet get over it soon! Thanks again!

Well I had a stomach perf at 3 months out that required emergency surgery, so it is almost like I am starting over again.  So technically I am 6 months out, but I am also sort of only 3 months out.  After the perf, I had to restart the phases of food and all.  Casey and Dr. Moein say I should be able to eat anything at this point, but I can't.  I've had Upper GIs and an endoscopy and they come back clean, so there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why I am like this.

Don't worry too much about throwing up.  I swear it is different now.  For one, a LOT less volume!  And it is mainly just whatever you just ate.  Pre surgery I gagged a lot (pills, gross food, I have a bad gag reflex) but never threw up.  I still gag and don't throw up from that.  But I can make myself throw up now, just by trying.  I never could do that before (would have come in handy those days I was trying to stay home sick from school!)  I guess because the food wants to go somewhere it is easier to get out.  Plus I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better after I do.  Except for when I throw up from taking disgusting medicine.  But that is mainly just spitting up water and whatever meds managed to get down.

But there are some who never throw up.  Everyone is so very different in this whole WLS thing.

I'm going. Tonight will be my first time.  (Even though I am 6 months out ).

For people who've been:  It is in the cafeteria, correct?  Can you tell me the best place to park (which lot) and then how to get to the cafeteria from there?  While I've been to GBMC a bajillion times, I've never been to the cafeteria.

Also, a big part of why I am going is because Casey told me that there would be samples of that newish vitamin there, Nutrametrix or something.  Has anyone tried it? How was it?

And what is the typical format of a meeting?

If you can't tell by my plethora of questions, going to new places and meeting new people stress me out, so I try to be armed with as much info as I can beforehand to calm me down somewhat.

Glad that you will be coming tonight. This is only my second meeting. What I remember from the first is that it is sort of open forum. Last time, Casey ran the meeting and there were a lot of questions/answers posed by the group. There were pre and post ops, a few men, mostly women.  We all sat in a circle, introduced self and Casey took it from there.

It is my understanding that the meeting is still in the cafeteria.  Best place to park is the main lot in front of the hospital.  I would go to the info desk when you walk in the front door to ask for better directions, but Im pretty sure when you walk in the front door, you go to your left to the elevators past the gift shop and go up to the 4th floor. Exiting the elevator, go to your right and the cafe should be down the hall.  PLEASE, confirm this with the info desk, like I said, this is only my second time.

See you tonight.

Thanks!  My name is Leigh and I'm wearing a floral top with some ruching near the bustline and jeans.  I have glasses and my hair is curly today.  Normally when I am meeting strangers I say to look for the fat girl, but I guess that won't help much in this sitch!  Plus soon I won't be "the fat girl" anymore!
