Oh yeah...totally!  I just e-mailed the Nurse Administrator for the JH Bariatric program to see if I can get in within two weeks OR if it's okay to wait 4.  Hmmmm....

Mari and Heather-
Can you at least get in to see Pat the NP? I'd be a little worried too- I'm going to the Hopkins support group Thursday night and will mention this to Christine the case manager if it's ok with you. I'm having surgery in 2 weeks and don't want to wait till 4 weeks after.

I actually switched after my consult from Dr Schweitzer to Dr Steele. Schweitzer is awesome (he did my friend's DS in Jan 08), and I would be more than happy with him as a surgeon. But I switched to Dr Steele after I saw her come to some of the support groups and when she came to hear the nutritionist talk so that she'd know what her patient's were being told. I also liked that she new all of her patients by name. I know Nicole (on here) had  Dr Steele as well and I think she was even given her home number in case of an emergency. I've heard Dr Steele is getting her own Nurse practioner soon.

All of the surgeons in the practice are busy- but they will try to work with you as much as possible on your time constraints. They also will put you on a waiting list. You should also talk with Christine Walsh and let her know as well. She's great and will help in any way she can.
Hope that helps-

Donna,

I have heard similar that Dr. Steele is extremely conciencious with her patients.  I did put a call into Christine and she returned it last early evening.  I asked her wasn't it after hours and she said it was, but that she wanted to return my call and she would be swamped today.  I thought that was pretty conciencious of her.  I did ask about a waiting list and she said there was one and she'd make a note to put me on it since going into 2009 was really going to be rough for me until possibly spring.

Arron, that made very good sense what you wrote about how surgeons and their teams work together.  Thanks

**UPDATE**

Since I had Christine Walsh's e-mail address I went ahead and e-mailed her letting her know the deal and she gave me a call.  It turns out that they have alot of temps in the office right now and I'd been given bad info.  However, it was easier to get me in to see Pat Jordan so I'll see her at Bayview next week.  AND...the biggy for me...I can drive.  I thought I had to wait until this followup appointment but they really only want you to not be under the influence of pain meds.  Thanks Jennifer_H...Christine confirmed that for me.

PHEW...I feel relieved!!  Good thing I'm one of a proactive kind of person!

Heather, I'm glad that worked out for you.  We really have to advocate for ourselves!  It seems like a pain but it's worth it.

Hi Mari,
I was approved 7/23 and had surgery 10/2.  It took a while because my surgeon's schedule is jam packed with people getting WLS, and he only performs two in a day.  I'm glad he does only two, because they take several hours and who would want a tired surgeron performing on them?

Originally, I started out with GBMC and Dr. Von Reuden and Moeinomolki, for RNYsurgery. Later Iswitched to Dr. Schweitzer for a DS after I researched everything especially outcomes.  I feel very good about my choice.
